Obituary of Darius Daniel Land

Darius Land

August 23, 1949 ~ December 12, 2022

Darius Daniel Land was born on August 23rd, 1949, to parents Elliott and Laura Land.  He grew up on the family farm at Halkirk, AB. attending school in Halkirk and Castor.

He left the farm at age seventeen to seek employment in the oilfield throughout AB, SK and the Arctic. For 48 years he worked in all kinds of weather at times travelling up to 12 hours just to get to a job. No matter if it was 40 degrees above or 40 degrees below, he never stopped working. When Darius' heart condition brought an end to his career he was actively involved in the cow/calf operation with son Jody.

Darius enjoyed going on several bus trips and family trips to the Disney Parks. He loved to visit and taking friends out for a meal.

Darius passed away on December 12, 2022, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of 48 years, daughter Allison (Colin), son Darius Jr. (Shara), son Jody (Jen), grandkids Kennedy (Robert) and Keegan Baillon and William and Nikola Land, as well his siblings Elliott (Sharon), Fred (Sandra) Roger (Shelley) and Laurie (Rob) Bullick; Nancy's siblings Judy (Dave) Elder, Valerie (Norman) Brassard, Riley Varns, Janie (Craig) Munchrath and Barry (Joanne) Munchrath.

Darius was predeceased by his parents and siblings Ken, Alice, Naomi, Gary and sister-in-law Shirley Varns. The many nieces and nephews from both sides all had a special place in Darius' heart.

Many of them remember the constant teasing and his amazing ability to recite jokes! During the last couple of months Darius enjoyed the visits at home and hospital with family and friends especially with two of his cousins Glenna and Andy and Phyllis and Colin. Two weeks ago, he was still planning who he wanted to take out for supper.

The family wishes to say thank you to all the Stettler Hospital Staff, Home Care Nurses and two wonderful doctors that showed so much care and kindness to Darius: Dr. K. Chapman and Dr. D. Edgeworth.

We request that any donations in Darius' name would be given to the Kids with Cancer.

As per Darius request no funeral service will be held.
