My most sincere condolences to Jordon’s family. I’ve thought of little else since Darren called to tell me.
Darren and Jordon were part of that marvellous brotherhood of teenage boys, growing up in Lacombe, that required the care of several mothers and “other mothers” operating in tandem just to keep track of them. Those days when they ate grilled cheese sandwiches by the loaf and congregated in our homes to raid the fridge and leave their shoes in front of the door. They skipped school en masse and always had each other’s back.
Managing their hockey team and the parties they had at our house back then provided me with a stack of happy memories. Those of Jordon include his being the sole impetus behind my creating a form letter to the league commissioner to apologize sincerely and profusely for his on-ice shenanigans. He could also smile his way out of me being “mad” at him every time we had to write one in the arena lobby. Without Jordon, how would I have ever known about the song Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani? His “woo hoo, yee hoo” was always in perfect pitch and his choreography was second to none.
When he noticed that my eyes are different colours he asked if that came with any super powers and was rather disappointed when I said they didn’t. He always had that mega watt smile and the energy to go with it. He’d often come up to the living room during a party to just visit and play cars on the floor with Cory for awhile. He gave the best hugs and as with most of those guys, he was a certified Momma’s boy.
Heaven is brighter for our loss. Those who love him are left with stories to tell, laughter to share, and memories to cherish that will keep him alive in our hearts until we see him again.
