We knew Tom through Red Deer Lake United Church, where we are members. He was a quiet, sincere, and very caring man. We appreciated his sense of humour and his gentle spirit. He will be much missed.

How sad I was to read that Mr. Sorenson had passed away. I graduated from E.P. Scarlett in 1980 and I played basketball throughout high school. Mr. Sorenson was an excellent coach and nurtured my love for the game through his kindness, encouragement, enthusiasm, and confidence building ways. I know he had a positive influence on so many lives and he will be missed. To his family and friends, please accept my deepest condolences.

You made such an impact on us all. Even though I had a tough time , you were always there with kind words of encouragement. My time at EP Scarlett were that much better because of you.

Mr. Sorenson was my high school vice principal in the late 80’s. I had some tough personal times back then, but Mr.S was always so kind to me, always asking “How are you doing today?” “Are you alright?” I will never forget his thoughtfulness and kindness. My condolences to the family.

Sorgie....my heart breaks at your passing!! I am just one of the many students whose lives you touched over your career. Having you and Runk coaching our basketball team still brings a smile to my face. I still LOVE the game!! I took great pride in helping to select the Tom Sorensen winner every year as a PE teacher at Scarlett. It felt extra special because I knew you and what you stood for. Thanks for the times that you made the effort to come back to Scarlett to present your award!!! I loved being able to teach your grandson Alex. Alex, I am so sorry for your loss. I am going to miss all of the times that we bumped into each other...Teachers Convention, sporting events, the YMCA, Scarlett events etc.
You inspired me, encouraged me and believed in me!! I will be forever grateful.
Love and hugs,
Janet Guterson (Davidson) AKA JD

Mr. Sorenson is one of the few people that I have great memories of from Scarlett. I attended from 1980-83, and he was always a warm, happy face in a sea of teenage craziness and angst. From reading his obit, I learned that he was a Rotarian. As a relatively new member myself, I can understand how he would have been an asset to his club.

The world was a better place with Tom in it. He cared deeply about those he worked with, both students and teachers. I had the pleasure of working with Tom at Central. I was a special Ed. Teacher and Tom was a regular visitor to our classroom. My students loved it when he dropped by for either a ping pong game or just to say hi.He said it was where he came when he needed a pick me up.Tom always listened to any concerns I had and responded with compassion and understanding. He will be greatly missed.
