We lived on the third floor of a duplex where Derek and his family lived on 6th avenue in Verdun. I fond memories of growing up there and the games we would play as children. My condolences to Aunty Nelda as we called his mom and to Nancy, his sister and his family. I am feeling sad we didn't keep in touch after those years RIP Derek.

My family would visit Uncle Ambrose and Aunt Nelda every summer on our way to New Brunswick from when I was born till I was 18.
Derek was three years older than me so I hung out with Nancy more.
What I do remember was how much of a creative mind Derek had. He just saw the answer to things really fast.
Also he was a Boston Bruins fan when he was young.
When Montreal was playing against Boston he got to watch the game on a little black and white tv in his bedroom.
I could hang out in his room if I was a Boston Bruins fan....
So be it, I was a Bruins fan :)
I remember “ Pride “ his German Shepard and the cat - can’t remember her name.
It was really nice seeing him on Facebook sharing his love and appreciation for his wife, and children and grandchildren.
Love and peace to all.

Dad, a fighter right until the end. I take pride in the way I do things as I have learned from you.
I remember all the carpenter jobs you let me come to and help out with... I will forever cherish those moments.
Love you dad, always and forever. You will forever be missed.

Derek was the perfect foil to Heidi. As a couple, they welcomed me with open arms to their family - Heidi with laughter and hugs, and Derek with the funniest, biting comments and sly smile. Their devotion to one another and their kids and Heidi’s care for him during his illness was a testament to their love. He leaves a remarkable legacy in them! Rest easy, Derek!

He was the dad that always said "no". I used to get so angry at him for not letting me go places or do things but now I understand why he always said no. It was to protect me and at that, he did a wonderful job. He kept us safe and gave us all we ever asked for. He was tough and I learnt to be strong by following the way my father dealt with things. "No sense in crying, it's not going to change anything".
You will forever missed, dad. I'm so grateful to have had you as my father and as my children's grandfather. We all love you. You will live on in our hearts and our memories will help us heal.
I love you, dad. Love, your Jadie-face. "Boom-Boom Malloy".

Derek was the first of the family I met in the village of Halikirk, He came to look at the town and the house that would be come the family home. Then asked if there was a bus or taxi the would take him to Red Deer I giggled at him and said not in this small town. But I could help him at the end of the day I would drive him to Stettler if that would help. Wasn’t long after Derek arrived with family in tow to Alberta. Iam so very sorry to all of you on the loss of Derek a son ,husband grandpa. But most of all a father to three beautiful children . Find peace with his loss his pain is over and he is shining Down on you all Bonny Manson
