Donald Flood
Vic was a great friend during my school days in Stettler. I arrived from Medicine Hat in 1945 and was disappointed on having to move on to Edmonton in 1949. I learned to appreciate rodeo and the related life style from Vic and have been a promotor of the sport ever since. I am a frequent visitor to England and Thailand and continue to pass this aspect of our Alberta heritage on where ever I go.

Dear Joyce and family, Wayne and I are saddened to hear of your loss. What a blessing Vic was to all of us lucky enough to know him. A happy, thoughtful and quiet gentleman, comfortable with his beliefs, and his love for everything rodeo. Our community is a better place for having you two in it.
Sending hugs, thoughts and prayers, Wayne and Cheryl Harrison

To Joyce and family.. we are so sorry to hear of Vic's passing. He was a real Gentleman and a credit to cowboys everywhere. I was talking to Jeff tonight and he reminded me that Vic had given him his first job at the bottle depot. He so enjoyed working for Vic and had so much respect for him and was always glad to go to work with Vic. Please accept our condolences and our prayers are with you.

To Joyce and Family:
I share your saddness today. Vic was one of the true country gentlemen.
Slow and steady and he cared so deeply.
I first met you folks through the Cowboy Church movement when our Boomtown Trail cowboy Church as in it's infancy and the Heartland group met with us to toss around ideas and lay out a trail for your group. Many joyful as well as sad times have passed since then.
It was always such a nice surprise to run into Vic and Joyce whenever our trails happened to cross.
I will always treasure my first meeting with Vic. @ Maple Creek Cowboy
Poetry Gathering, many years ago. I has just released a book about my growing up years at Chain Lakes.
Long story short: Vic had just written a poem about Chain Lakes and presented it at the gathering. I was so excited! Someone loved those lakes as I did. Of course, after the set, We rushed up to introduce ourselves and compare notes. I should say I was excited. Vic was somewhat apologetic as he felt he had infringed on some kind of copywrite. That thought never crossed my mind and we had a good laugh about it and the bond was set.
I just admired what a kind, thoughtful and gentle soul lived under that big hat and beautiful smile.
RIP Vic - til we met again.

Losing Vic is a huge loss to his family and friends, and for the community. I first met Vic at Cowboy Church where he would stand at the door and meet and greet people as they came in. Our handshake eventually turned into a big hug under that huge cowboy hat. A great memory. My late husband, Walter, used to go over to the P&H Elevator every Thursday morning to have coffee with Vic and Joyce and some of the other friends who would stop by for coffee. Our community is a better place because Vic was in it. I have his book of poetry and have enjoyed reading about his memories of times gone by.
My sincere sympathy to Joyce and family. Vic will be missed.

Sad news. Vic was one of the very few good ones, a truly decent gentleman. Along with Joyce, a remarkable lady, they raised one of the most decent families I have ever known. The world is a less better place with Vic's passing. RIP Cowboy. You will be missed. Gary & Dianne McKay

Vic was born to parents Victor Eugene Stuckey & Florence Margaret Cross on June 18, 1933 in Calgary, AB. He married Joyce Sophie Ziegler, the love of his life, on August 11, 1954
Vic is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce, his children Lee (Gail), Val (Findlay), Gene (Twyla), Jay (Sue) & Shawn, Grandchildren Kyla (Jeff), Jenna (Kevin), Tyrel (Justine), Brooke, Reagan, Dallas (Charles), Kylee (Dave ), Taylore (Garrett ), Logan, Sienna & Lane, 11 Great Grandchildren, his Brother Bill (Irene) & Sister Lynn, Sisters-in law Betty, Lillian & Brother-in-law Bill, Brother-in-law Tom, numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and 1 sibling at birth.
Vic was born with rodeo in his jeans and Saddle Bronc was his event of choice. He also loved Cowboy Poetry and took that up later in life, doing very well and entertaining people across the Country. He was passionate about Cowboy Church and was leading the charge in establishing the Heartland Cowboy Church in Stettler in June 2007 and it is still going strong today. He & Joyce were faithful Volunteers to the P & H Elevator in Stettler where they put the coffee on every Thursday morning for 12 years. This was a great little gathering spot to catch up on what happening in town.
Away from rodeo he was a cowboy with many hats – a NADP cream inspector with the Dairy Pool, a farmer, a salesman, a horse trader.
Like any real cowboy he was always family first, always up for the challenge, always fair, always a prankster, enjoyed time with his family and in his heart he knew he couldn’t do it without his Lord & Saviour.
Unfortunately, only 100 people are allowed to gather for memorial services, so the family is unable to extend an open invitation to attend his memorial. Please keep Vic’s family in your prayers during this time.
A couple of verses taken from one of the Poems Vic had written entitled Me and Jesus
Me and Jesus are walking together
I know he has a hold of my hand.
As we travel through this life of sorrow
On our way back to God’s promised land.
When life’s journey comes to an end
I thank God I won’t be alone.
I’ll have my saviour to guide me
Me and Jesus will be going back home.
In lieu of flowers, Condolences may be sent to the Stettler Funeral Home or to either the P & H Elevator or Heartland Cowboy Church.

Vic was one of the first persons we met when we moved to Stettler 42 years ago. My recollection is that back then he worked for the Donalda creamery. We ran into Vic and Joyce many times over the years. Vic was an easy going slow talking gentleman that was always just easy to know . We were privileged to know Vic and his family.

My wish is for all the family to remember. You will always have him in your heart and memories, as I will also. Keep them close you so you can smile and laugh with him. I am truly sorry for all you have to go through to get to this point.
Uncle Vic
You were a very special person in my life growing up. I have never known another person to measure up to you. So kind, gentle and forgiving. I often thought of you as the gentle giant when I was a child. So many memories. Always Loved you smile and your laugh. Looked so forward to hear you recite one of your poems or say a prayer.
Sure will miss you
