Obituary
Obituary of Eleanor Toews
Our Mother and Grandmother, Eleanor Toews, was born to Henry and Helen Loewen, at home near Swalwell, Alberta on February 3, 1933. At sunrise, on August 26, 2010, she peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family. She reached the age of 77 years.
Mom spent her girlhood years on the farm at Swalwell, Alberta. Here she gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized on November 25, 1945 into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. To this faith she remained true to the end. She was concerned for the spiritual welfare of her family and friends.
Mom received her schooling at New Hope and Linden Schools. In 1950 she moved with her family to Oras, Alberta where they spent a few years.
On January 9, 1955, she married Wilfred Toews at Linden, Alberta. They shared nearly fifty four years of married life. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Their first few years were spent in Linden and Rocky Mountain House. In 1968 we moved to the farm south of Stettler where they lived for thirty three years. In 2001 they moved to their retirement home nearby.
We have many memories we will treasure. Mom loved her children and grandchildren dearly and offered many prayers for us. Mom was a devoted homemaker and their many friends were always made to feel welcome in their home. We will miss her listening ear and quiet ways. She spent many hours crocheting and doing puzzles. Mom lovingly cared for Dad for ten years after his stroke. His passing one and a half years ago left her lonely. Nine months ago she was diagnosed with cancer. She faced her illness with dignity and a strong faith in God. Even during this difficult time she was more concerned for her family than for herself.
She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family. Survived by her children:
Robert and Brenda Toews – Lavern and Lisa, Lori and Don, Liz and Del, Dallas and Virginia, Shelby;
Wanda and Ralph Wiebe – Melissa and Dennis, Alex, Tamara; Ron and Pat Toews – Derek, Carlin, Paula; Lorne and Marci – Craig, Anthony, Natasha, Chad, Josh; LeAnn and Dale Ensz – Emery, Dylan, Kelly; great grandchildren: Pollyanna, Laramie, Amber, Emmerson and Rebecca; four Sisters – Mary, Verna, Marj, Jean; five brothers – Paul and Verna, Alvin and Lillian, Monroe and Alice, Don and Bonnie, Gary and Delores; sister in law Lucille; Dad’s brothers and sisters, her nieces, nephews and many friends.
Predeceased by her husband Wilfred, parents and parents in law, two sisters in law and three brothers in law.
Funeral service was held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, with Keith Klassen and Dewey Unruh officiating. Interment took place at Lakeview Fenn Cemetery with Lavern Toews, Dallas Toews, Derek Toews, Carlin Toews, Dennis Toews, Alex Wiebe, Craig Toews and Emery Ensz as Casket Bearers. The Church of God in Christ Mennonite Choir presented several beautiful selections at the Church service and at the Graveside.
