Robert “Bob” George Young May 20, 1955 – November 16, 2019 Robert (‘Bob”) George Young, age 64, died at home in Calgary on Saturday, November 16, 2019. He was born to George and Vivian Young in Stettler Alberta on May 20, 1955, the oldest of three children. While completing school in Stettler he also worked part-time, initially with his father’s business and then at the local hardware. Bob was a member of Stettler Baptist Church serving as organist. Bob continued his education at Camrose Lutheran College and then transferred to the University of Alberta where he completed the Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He obtained an articling position with Peat Marwick to complete his Chartered Accountant designation. As a KPMG partner in Edmonton, Bob also served as the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. In 2003, Bob transferred to Toronto with the firm to be a partner in their Department of Professional Practice. There he enjoyed the pipe organ and choir of Yorkminster Park Baptist on Sunday mornings. Retiring from the partnership and returning to Calgary, Bob continued as an Associate with a significant education role nationally, internationally and with the University of Alberta. Earlier this year, Bob received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta which honored his expertise and dedication to his profession. Robert is survived by his mother Vivian Young, sister Nancy Young and brother Bryan Young, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his father George in 2000. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019 at Westview Baptist Church, 1313 Ranchlands Way NW, Calgary with reception to follow. Interment will be in Stettler at a later date. Donations are gratefully accepted to the CPA Education Foundation of Alberta in honor of Robert G. Young.
