Obituary of Lucille Nancy Jeanne Erion

Lucille Erion passed away peacefully in the Castor Hospital on November 12, 2016 at the age of 89. She was born on March 25, 1927 to Marie and Placide Frey at Tinchebray and was raised on the Frey farm north of Castor. After school she worked as an aide at Castor Hospital then in Stettler. It was here that she met John Erion. They married in September 1948 and returned to the Frey farm where they raised their three sons; Wayne, Lloyd and Loren. John and Lucille moved into Castor in 1990 but remained very active on the farm. Lucille worked very hard raising her family, cooking, milking cows and chores but her passion was her garden and flowers. She knew the name of every plant and flower and enjoyed sharing her knowledge and recipes with her daughters-in-law. Her freezers and cold rooms were always packed full come winter including this year. The boys say they packed in pails and pails of potatoes in the fall only to pack out pails and pails come spring. She made every kind of jam and jelly and loved to pick berries. Lucille was an excellent cook. Her day was made when she could make a meal someone enjoyed. She loved to come out to the farm during harvest to cook. Homemade buns, perogies, pies, cream puffs…we never ate so good! Lucille was very crafty. She spent many hours working on ceramics, knitting and crocheting; pretty much any craft. She was excellent at cake decorating and would stay up all night to finish that cake. She made all her children’s and grandchildren’s wedding cakes as well as countless others. Lucille was a social butterfly. She loved to visit, play cards and Bingo. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tease. Lucille’s greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always interested in what they were doing. She spent many days babysitting and watching them on the farm. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all know how to play crib thanks to her and John. Every family gathering would see her sitting at the table with a crib board and a twinkle in her eye because she had a 24 hand. We are going to miss her meals, her calls in the morning to see how much rain we had or if the combining or baling was done, her bags full of crocheted dish cloths and tea towels at Christmas, her generosity, her laugh and her smile! Lucille is lovingly remembered by her three sons: Wayne (Laurie Anne), Lloyd (Sheila) and Loren (Peggy); six grandchildren: Keith (Janine), Tammy (Lyle), Darcy (Stacey), Kyle (Sarah), Tyler and Samantha; ten great grandchildren: Carlie, Hallie and Trey Erion; Sydney, Ashley and Kolby Renschler; Treston and Kesler Erion; Adin and Addison Koenig, brothers in law, sister in law, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2003, her parents and in laws.
