Obituary of Mary Isabel Nixon
Isabel Nixon
1923 – 2024
Mary Isabel Campbell was born in Craigmyle, Alberta on December 13th, 1923 to parents Albert and Mary Ann Campbell. Isabel had two sisters Peg and Doreen and five brothers Sylvester, Doug, Albert, Les and John.
After completing school in 1942 Isabel worked in Vancouver for a few months before returning to her hometown of Byemoor, Alberta and in 1944 married the love of her life Glenn Nixon. Mom and Dad lived in the Byemoor area for four years before they moved to the Hackett district and purchased a farm. They had seven children: Margaret, Glenna, Gloria, Jack, Mary Ann, Darlene and Garry.
Mom was always very involved with her children and in the community. She was a member of the Royal Purple and taught Sunday school in our small community building Model School. Our family unit was strong and there was always a lot to do but we all worked together. She worked hard at everything she did. Milking cows, helping with outside chores, baking, canning and sewing were just a part of what she had to do. Summers were busy and we always had different cousins staying with us so our house was full.
Whenever anyone stopped by mom always had the coffee on and baking served, or a meal put together. Mom and Dad had lots of company and they loved it.
As the years went by and the grandchildren came along, she would have them out to stay over for Easter, Christmas, summer or anytime we needed her. She adored her grandchildren and her family, and it was so important to her to keep our family connected.
In 2001 mom and dad bought a house in Stettler and eventually moved to a duplex where mom would take turns with the neighbors hosting coffee parties. After Dad’s passing in 2009 mom eventually moved to Paragon shortly after her 90th birthday.
Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep. Her last days she was surrounded by family and love.
Isabel is survived by her children: Glenna Beierle (Don), Gloria Streit, Jack (Shirley) Nixon, Mary Ann (Rob) Nelson, Darlene Low and Garry Nixon (Danielle); sister-in-law Marie Campbell; sixteen grandchildren: Jami (Ryan) Roberts, Ryan Beierle (Cara), Renee Watney, Sonya (Lawrence) Peddle, Tammy Streit (Steve), Kyle Streit, Jacki (Neil) Woods, Glenn Nixon, Jocelyn Nixon, Brandi (Brendon) Gerber, Reid Nelson (Nicole), Josh Nelson (Erika), Alicia (Blaise) Hebert, Matt (Kayley) Low, Randelle (Kit) Nixon, Marissa (Shane) Campbell; step grandchildren Cody Stewart and Jessie Blacklock: nineteen great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of wonderful friends and neighbours.
Isabel was predeceased by husband Glenn Nixon; daughter Margaret Nixon; two sisters; five brothers; eleven brothers-in-law and ten sisters-in-law.
