Agnes Comeau

November 21, 1931 ~ June 9, 2024

Age 92

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Agnes Comeau. Agnes passed away peacefully Sunday morning with her sons Keith and Don at her bedside. She was special to many: those that have pre-deceased her and those she leaves behind. Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She blessed us all with her patience, kindness and love.

Agnes was born in the Donalda, Alberta area on November 21, 1931 along with her twin sister, Wilma. She was one of three children to Ole and Elizabeth Watland. Their bother David was a late gift, born May of 1940. Growing up Agnes and Wilma went to Skybo School, a little old schoolhouse on a dusty road in the country. The family moved to Red Willow in 1945 and permanently settled in Stettler in 1948.

Agnes met and married Albert Henke, the couple raised six children before his untimely death in 1973.

After Albert passed, Agnes went to work at Heart Haven Lodge in Stettler. She met up with Joe Comeau, an old friend from the area. The two were married in 1988. Joe and Anges spent the next nine years together, until he passed in 1997.  Agnes remained living in her home for several years after Joe passed away but Agnes knew since her career at Heart Haven that she wanted to be a resident. She enjoyed 16 years among friends and those who she considered family, when she had to be relocated to Points West in July of 2023.

Agnes was very social. She enjoyed bowling and floor curling when she could and many a night was spent playing card games with Joe and friends. Her life with Joe was very special: they enjoyed camping and fishing in summer and in winter she did needle canvas, knitting, and crocheting, while Joe did beading, making many plant hangers and fruit bowls that were known by all.

Agnes is survived by her three sons and their wives; Keith and Cheryl Henke of Edmonton, Alberta, Don and Anita Henke of Traytown, Newfoundland and Robert and Nora Jane Henke of Cobourg, Ontario; thirteen grandchildren:  Jennine Uschenko , Del Uschenko,, Christina Shurko, Matthew Tillapaugh, Christopher Henke, Benjamin Henke, Albert Elliott, Bill Elliott, Monica Elliot, Melissa Henke, Graham Henke, Beau Johnson and Jessica Henke as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents Ole and Elizabeth Watland; first husband Albert Henke; second spouse Joe Comeau; brother David Watland and twin sister Wilma Olsen. Agnes also lost her three precious daughters: first Lorna Henke, then Doreen Elliott and then Betty Tillapaugh. Agnes and her girls are all together at home in heaven…at peace.
