In Loving Memory

Devon Boulding

January 31, 1955 ~ May 22, 2024

Devon Boulding, of Big Valley, Alberta, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024, at Heritage House in Stettler, Alberta after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Devon was born on January 31, 1955, in Red Deer, Alberta. Devon attended River Glen School and during that time he drove one of the five school buses that parked at the home ranch each night.  He completed his education at Edmonton, U of A, with a degree in Agriculture.

His love for ranching, horses, and cows defined his life from an early age. It was through his passion for horses and involvement with the Red Deer Quarter Horse Association that he met Gail Boulding.  They got married in 1981 and that started his new passion in life…FAMILY.

Together, they raised their children with love and dedication. Ashley, born in Red Deer, they moved to the Big Valley Ranch when she was just one year old. Jeffrey and Jeremy followed, completing their family circle. Devon's devotion to his family was unparalleled, it was a common sight to see Devon out in the pasture followed by a small child on the pony, where he taught them the ways of ranch life.

Life was busy but it got harder for Devon when he was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease.  It didn’t stop him but made each day harder.

He didn’t quit, didn’t lose his fervor for ranching, he didn’t lose his quaint sense of humor.  He found a strong faith in his Lord Jesus, and Jesus kept him strong.

As Parkinson's gradually limited his mobility, Devon adapted with characteristic resilience, transitioning from horseback to a quad, then a cane, and finally a wheelchair. Moving to Heritage House marked a difficult transition, yet he remained connected to his beloved ranch through frequent visits and calls.  The staff took good care of Devon, but he was still lonely.

“Parkinson’s doesn’t kill you” they say…but it doesn’t let you live.

His final days were a testament to his indomitable spirit. Even as his health declined, Devon's wit, strength, and unique smile never wavered. His last words, asking about the seeding, exemplify his enduring dedication to his ranching heritage.

Devon will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of perseverance and love leaves an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of sharing in his life's journey.

Devon is survived by loving wife Gail; children: Ashley Boulding, Jeffrey Boulding and Jeremy Boulding; mother Marjory Boulding; brothers Bradley (Lillian) Boulding and Gary Boulding; sisters-in-law Brenda Boulding and Lisa Boulding; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Devon was predeceased by his father Charles “Chuck” Boulding; sister Judy Boulding and brother Kent Boulding.
