Obituary of Harriet Joanne Chapman
Harriet Joanne Chapman
December 11, 1953 ~ May 24, 2024
Harriet Chapman, beloved wife of Ritchie Chapman entered into an eternal life with God and to join her loved ones that predeceased her. Harriet was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and a friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Harriet was born in Stettler and lived there in her early years before moving to Edmonton to work for a florist which is where she developed a love of flowers, especially lilies. Harriet returned to Stettler and married the love of her life, Ritchie Chapman, on April 22, 1977 and together had two sons, Mark and Blair. Harriet worked for G and H Foods for ten years before spending the next twenty-three years working for Heart Haven Lodge in Stettler where many of the residents were touched by her tender personality and her love of baking. Harriet then chose to retire and spend time at home with her family. Her home was always open to all to experience her love.
Throughout her life she was known for her hard work and dedication to her family and friends and a passion for always putting others first, never letting her struggles with health stop her from constantly offering support and guidance to not only her family, but also to her friends. She had a smile and a kind word for all that were fortunate to know her. This world truly was a richer place with Harriet here until God called her home. She will be missed by all. She truly was a beacon of light.
Harriet is survived by her husband of 47 years Ritchie Chapman; son Mark (Pam); sisters Kersti (Brian), Linda (Dave) and Lisa (Kevin); brothers Eric (Trish), Doug (Bev), Pep and John; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and grandchildren.
Harriet was predeceased by son Blair; parents Niels and Karla Nielson; nephew Christopher; parents-in-law Eileen and Pony Chapman and stepfather Ron Jones.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler, Alberta on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM.
All are welcome to join the family to reflect on a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, it was Harriet’s request that donations be given to the Erskine Curling Club or to the Erskine Cemetery. We would also like to express our thanks to the ICU wards of Stettler Hospital and Red Deer Regional Hospital for their care of our beloved Harriet. The family also thanks the Stettler Funeral Home for their help during this time of sorrow.
