I was probably 8 or 9 at the time, Mom, Grammy, Grandpa and myself were all driving around doing some errands in Calgary in moms red van. I was in the middle row and Grandpa was sitting in the 3rd row for some reason reading the newspaper, Mom and Grammy decided to go into this one store and left the car running for me and grandpa. We were sitting around for a few minutes, and I was getting pretty bored, so I decided to hop into the driver’s seat and pretend I was driving the car. I kept on turning around to see if grandpa was concerned but he was so into whatever he was reading I don’t even think he noticed. Anyways a few minutes went by, and I somehow ended up shifting the van into ether neutral or reverse and we started rolling back in the parking lot. And this had to have been the fastest I have ever seen grandpa move, he was no spring chicken at the time ether, but in a split-second grandpa managed to leap 2 rows and hopped on top of me, he put the van in drive and moved it back into the parking spot. He might have yelled out one of his go to curse words but that was it. We both ended up going back to our spots and didn’t say a word. I was so worried that he was going to tell Mom and Grammy about what happened when they got back in the car, but he never did, he just kept on reading the paper. We never talked about it again, but I know he had to have remembered that. One of Brooklyn’s favorite memories of Grandpa was when he would tell the three bears story in German, at Christmas time to all the grandchildren. We never understood what he was saying, and every once in a while he would forget the words in German and carry along in English, we always got a kick out of it. Mom always said that Grandpa was the best of all of us, which couldn’t have been more true. Love you Grandpa you will be missed.

Rest in peace dad. Protector, provider, teacher, role model, fixer, coach, discipliner, life philosopher, and friend, and all-around great guy. While growing up to being an adult, there are so many memories with you, through the good and the bad, you were there for all of it, through thick and thin. It is much comfort, knowing you lived a good long life, full of memories, experiences, love, and happiness. For now we grieve your loss, but in the weeks ahead we will be happy for everything we shared. I take with me, those precious memories, and honor your legacy by living my life to the fullest as you taught me and in turn pass that on to my own children.
“It is a far, far better thing I do, than ever before; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known.”

I first met Henry in January 1993 when Lisa invited me to the farm to meet the family for the first time. I soon discovered how wonderful Lisa’s parents were and how they immediately made me feel part of their family. I knew Henry for over thirty years and during that time I soon learned he was more than just a father-in-law to me. A week after his passing, I find myself dearly missing my good friend. Henry was a great human being, always so kind and caring - truly, one of the nicest people you could ever meet. When the kids were young, there was hardly a weekend we didn’t see you and I always looked forward to visiting and watching a football or hockey game together. I reflect on the so many great times we had together and how you were so involved with the raising of my family and experiencing the growth of my kids from toddlers into adults. I will always be grateful for the time we spent together and positive influence you had on myself and my family. You will be sorely missed by us all.
Sincerely,
Gord
