Obituary of Ted Carter

Please share a memory of Ted to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our father, Edward Charles (Ted) Carter on August 11, 2023 in Red Deer, AB. Born on February 23, 1929 in Sible Hedingham, Essex, England to Willie Robert and Louise Ida Carter, one of seven children.  Ted emigrated to Canada in 1947, first to Stettler, AB and then Kamloops, BC where he decided to join the Royal Canadian Navy and headed east to Nova Scotia in 1950.  Ted met the love of his life, Mary Jane (Jane) Coade at a dance at the YMCA in Halifax in October 1951 and they were married December 6, 1952.  In 1955 he left the Navy and they moved to Kamloops until he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1958.  Ted and Jane moved several times and lived in various locations across the country until Ted’s retirement in 1973 when they moved to BC, living first in Victoria for two years before building their home in Shawnigan Lake in 1975.

Unfortunately, Ted lost Jane to cancer in November 2002 after being married for almost 50 years.  After Jane’s passing, Ted moved to Victoria, BC and then Stettler, AB where he resided until his passing.

Ted is survived by his children: Michael Carter, Calgary, AB; Debbie (Bill) van’t Kruis, Terrace, BC; Sue Malcolm (Gerry), Vancouver, BC; Steve (Sayo) Carter, Langley, BC; and Lisa (Scott) Brousseau, Halifax, NS. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred with Jane in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery in Mill Bay, BC at a later date. There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
