Obituary of Ron Radke

Reinhold (“Ron”) Radke

It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ron Radke of Halkirk, Alberta on July 14, 2023 at the age 87 years.

He was a kind, thoughtful and generous husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother, friend and neighbour and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Millie and his family, sons Bernie Radke and Edwin Radke, daughter-in-law Sherri and his grandchildren Everett, Nathan and Matthew.

Ron was born in Poland and as a child, migrated with his family to East Germany.  At the age of 18, debating between a move to Argentina or Canada, he travelled by boat to Quebec and train to Alberta.

Always hard-working, he spent much of his young adult life working in BC and Alberta, eventually settling in Halkirk.  He operated a gas station while he started his farm. Eventually, the farm grew to a full-time pursuit, he married Millie, the station was sold and a family started.  Ron and Millie grew the farm and raised the family, always together.  His son Bernie continues to run that farm today.

Ron enjoyed the best things in life, whether it was fishing, visiting with friends and neighbours or enjoying the fresh baking that was constantly in the house.  As retirement came, spending time with his grandchildren always brought a smile to his face.  Over the years he shared stories and laughter with many and we are forever grateful for his patience, wisdom and kind words.

Ron is predeceased by his parents, Olga and Gottlieb, sister Marta and brothers Eduard and Erwin.

Per his wishes, no formal service will be held.  In memory of Ron, donations can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, (47 Squire Baker Ln, Markham, Ontario L3P 3G8) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
