Betty and Eric were always available when we needed them, particularly if it was agricultural. Betty loved babies, especially her grandchildren. She also loved plants. Her home was filled with them. She had quite the green-thumb. She also knew how to be thrifty. We would visit Eric and Betty quite often when they lived in Sherwood Park. Betty’s door was always open, especially to family. Rest in peace Betty.

I have many fond memories of Auntie Betty… too many to pick just one!
When I think of Auntie Betty I see her smile, her twinkling eyes, hear her contagious giggle and think about the smell of Ham cooking in the oven.
Auntie Betty looked and sounded the most like our mom ( her baby sister Joan). I recall Auntie Betty teasing mom by fooling mom’s first four Grandchildren into thinking she was their Grandmother. This obviously made mom a little crazy! I have added a picture of Auntie Betty holding Jolene, mom’s first Grandchild.
As a child I remember Auntie Betty coming to stay with us many times and listening to the two sisters giggling and reminiscing about their childhood days!
Auntie Betty became even more special to us when we lost our Mother in 1989. Auntie Betty became a bit of a stand in for us. It was comforting to see her face and hear her voice which was so similar to our Mother’s.
Auntie Betty frequently called to check in on our family and usually timed in on a Holiday when she could catch and chat with myself and my siblings.
The last call I had from Auntie Betty she was so animated and delighted in telling me about her Great Grandchildren. I was wonderful to hear how much joy they brought her. She also told me “she had a bit of cancer, but she was too ornery to die! She was just going to get rid of it!”
I admired and looked up to Auntie Betty and her independent, feisty spirit!
Auntie Betty has a special place in my heart and my family and I will miss her very much!
