The family of Maurice & Dora Brekelmans in Ontario are thinking of you all. My parents sponsored John when he first came to Canada and were the farmers that he worked for in Ontario. My dad (Mari) already knew John's parents from their younger days when they all lived in Holland. My parents kept in touch and visited the Verhoeven clan in Alberta and when my dad passed a few years ago, John appeared at his funeral which meant a lot to us. John always had a smile, a story and an adventure either happening or being planned. Henriette Brekelmans <3

Our deepest condolences for the passing of Uncle John. He waltzed into our family with Chris on his arm, full of humour, kindness, and often mischievous wit. The love between them was immeasurable. He will be remembered for playfully cheating at Christmas pingpong, towing our canoe behind his boat on the Red Deer River, and taking the time to visit nephews and niece in BC during one of the many adventures Chris and him shared. Many laughs and puns were shared and John never left the room without an impish grin. Our thoughts are with you during this time. We first met John a short while after he immigrated to Canada and was working on a farm near Ingersoll, Ontario. He then worked for us at Lamers Silos for a few years before moving to Alberta. We were fortunate to visit him and Francien and their three children several times in several locations during our many trips to Alberta. We never got tired of listening to him as he told us about his ventures and trips. There was never a dull moment when in his company. May the family cherish all the fun times and the many happy memories during this sad time when a person leaves us much too soon. Our deepest sympathy. John and Mary Lamers

We first met John when we came to visit Chris . He was trying to be very shy, and at the same time he was out to make a great impression on us all. He was very much wanting to make Chris his wife.
