Francis "Ella" Simon

Sunrise  April 26th, 1939 - Sunset October 10th, 2022

Ella got her wings and went to soar with the angels on the morning of October 10th, 2022 at the Agape Hospice in Calgary, Alberta.  Among those angels there to welcome her home were her parents Gino and Anne Simon, stepmother Mani Simon, sister June Dutkewich, son Jerry Owchar, granddaughter Krystal Owchar, and best friend and neighbor Sharon Skaley.

Ella will be lovingly remembered by her children Cindy Owchar (Ken Duncan), Brent Owchar, Perry Owchar - all of Stettler Alberta, Darren (Shelley) Owchar of Fort Nelson, BC, and Leanne Owchar of Calgary, Alberta.  She will forever be missed and cherished by her grandchildren Chad Owchar (Farrah), Kendra Duff, Cody (Danielle) Helgeson, Kallen (Amy) Helgeson, Cheyenne (Seth) Landis, Jamie Owchar (Jason), Jeannine Owchar, Ashia Blu Owchar (Chris), Amber Owchar (Brent), Levi Owchar, Tyrell Owchar, Kyla Dewalt, Kelsey (Ian) Bouck, Kenzi Owchar, and Taneal Hauck (Cody). Ella has also left behind to mourn, her great grandchildren - Noah (Bryn), Van, Leia, Riley, Gilford, Brooklyn, Connor, Maverick, Abigail, Hailey, Hayden, Logan, Tayla, Maddie, Julia, Brennan, Christopher, Destin, Emma, Dawson, Walker, Alice, Stevie and soon to be baby Helgeson.  Ella is also survived by her brother John (Phyllis) Simon, brother David (Diane) Simon, sister Eva (Bud) Newton, and brother-in-law John Dutkewich, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ella was the matriarch of her family, and her family was the most important thing in the world to her. She was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren alike.  She was a gardener extraordinaire with the most beautiful flower gardens that were admired by many.  Ella was an expert in the kitchen, her famous cinnamon buns have yet to be perfected by another.  Ella always had coffee on, and an array of home baked goods to choose from.  She was well versed in the Italian and Ukrainian art of keeping you fed - you never left her place hungry.  She loved to knit and crochet and destroy all who dared to challenge her in a game of crokinole or dice.

Ella was always quick to laugh, and never took life too seriously.  Whenever you needed her, she was always there, arms wide open to wrap you in one of her legendary grandma hugs.  Her eyes reflected the kindness of her heart and soul which made an indelible impression on all that knew her.  Ella has left an enormous hole in all of our hearts, and she will forever be deeply loved and adored.

There will be a celebration of her life on Sunday, May 21st, 2023 from 2pm - 4pm at The Hub - located upstairs at the Stettler Recreation Center.  Please join us for shared memories, a video tribute, and a special musical ensemble in memory of her.  Refreshments, fellowship and some of Ella's favorite things to follow the ceremony.

Ella's favorite color was pink, and the family asks that if you feel so inclined, feel free to honor that in your attire, but please note that it is not mandatory.

If you would like to make a donation in memory of Ella, the family has chosen the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Cancer Foundation or the local food bank as the charities of choice.
