Jean Riggins passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in Stettler, AB on January 9, 2022. Former resident of Medicine Hat, she had been residing at Paragon Place in Stettler since August of 2020.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Glenna Carlson; grandsons Chad (Krista) and their daughter Kinley, Jordan (Kim) and children Sydney and Cole, and Joel and children Jaxson, Hailie and Gavin, as well as numerous well-loved nieces, nephews, cousins and special and close friends. Jean was predeceased by her son, Rick; brother, Ernie; sisters, Alice (Ken) and Jessie (Ken) and former husband Glen.
Jean enjoyed spending time in her yard tending to her garden and flower beds, golfing, walking many miles through the city, curling, watching the Medicine Hat Mavericks and the Medicine Hat Tigers. Jean spent 30+ years being a billet mom to many Tiger and Maverick players, affectionately known as “Mean Jean” because she was the complete opposite of mean. She took those boys in and treated them as her own and many continued to be a part of her life today. She also enjoyed spending time watching her great grandchildren participate in their various activities.
Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for June 11, 2022 at Westminster United Church Medicine Hat, Alberta dependant on Covid restrictions at that time.
In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the MS Society of Canada.
