Obituary of Eileen Josephine Dyki
In Loving Memory
Eileen Dyki
October 14, 1932 ~ January 1, 2022
On January 1st, Eileen Dyki passed away peacefully at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital.
She was the daughter of Ed and Mary Knorr born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and was the eldest of 6 children, John, Valentine, Adeline, Eugene and Victoria. Eileen worked on the family farm until age 18 then moved to Luseland. At a wedding dance in 1953, she met William Dyki, and they were married on August 17, 1955. There were plenty of family and friends to celebrate their union at the Knorr farm.
Soon after, they moved to Calgary and Eileen began working at Safeway which started the legacy of multiple siblings and generations doing the same. Their first son Brian was born June 3rd, 1956. Eileen then began babysitting kids and started her home business of sewing alterations. Greg was born March 14, 1960. In 1966, the family moved to Castor where they built a new home, and she has lived ever since. In 1971 on May 29th, Eileen’s family was completed with their daughter Christine.
The importance and dedication to family was a life well-lived for her. The door was open and there was always time for a visit. She celebrated the marriages of all her children and was able to give and receive the love of 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Many nights were spent with her and Bill’s friends enjoying various card games filled with much laughter or cheering for her beloved Edmonton Oilers.
Eileen’s commitment to her sewing business was a lifelong love and she reluctantly retired in 2019 due to her eyesight. Fabric flowed under her hands like magic when it came to sewing. Nothing gave her greater joy than creating into the late-night hours for family, her many customers and especially bridal parties and graduates helping to make their gown dreams come true. There wasn’t a challenge too much for her that endless patience wouldn’t overcome. A character trait that served her well her entire life.
She was predeceased by Bill in 2007 and Brian in 2021. Greg, Leanne, Christine, Jason, and Joan along with extended family and friends will miss her kind, steady, calm, and loving presence.
She is loved.
Eileen’s life was long and throughout she faith, determination, and strength to overcome multiple cancer diagnoses.
