It was in early spring of 1951 that I met the Ardena I remember most vividly: tall, sophisticated, elegant in a classy grey suit. Despite her cosmopolitan presence, there was not the slightest hint of arrogance and, yes, I can only repeat her lovely qualities expressed by all who knew her. Over the years I stayed several times at Herbie and Ardena's place and the way she made you comfortable was simply exceptional. How I now regret not to have shown her the same generosity!

I've loved Ardena since I was a child living next door and I will cherish my memories of her, forever. As a child, every Christmas she would give me a gift and it made me feel so special. I'll never forget the pair of 'pear' earrings she gave me one year. How I wish I still had them today. She will always hold a special spot in my heart. My sincere condolences to all of her family.

I've been thinking about Great Aunt Aredena from my earliest memories of going to visit Castor during Christmas when I was quite young up until dad's funeral. The one thing that always comes to mind is stability. She was a constant. If I shuffle my memories around Aredena was always the same, geniune, person regardless of the decade. Many people get old, she only aged.

These are excerpts from a note I wrote to Ardena a few years ago, it may be too long to add to condolences, but one could write chapters of praise for the lady known as Ardena!
One of the nicest things about town living for Mom and me was being a neighbour to you and Herb and those 5 wonderful children!! You were a phenomenon to me; a beautiful, classy lady who ran a home worthy of being in a magazine with your sense of style and décor. You had all those things going for you and most importantly one of the nicest ladies we were privileged to know.
I remember babysitting your kids occasionally and there you would be! You and Herb dressed up so nicely and both looking happily radiant and laughing together in anticipation of a night out!! I also admired the love you had for your kids – 5 of them – and any time I visited you were always enjoying them!! You were sort of ahead of your time I mostly saw young Moms ‘putting up’ with their children but you were often laughing with them at their antics and original thoughts.
Imagine how fortunate I felt to be able to work with my hero in the doctor’s office!? I learned so much from you in dealing with the public – who were so often a challenge! You were always so kind and patient even when it was not easy to do so. And always an extraordinary professional, all information was kept confidential, and the doctors were treated respectfully – again when it was not always easy to do so. You were never impatient or resentful when we had to work overtime and you still had to go home to a busy household!
You were very much the voice of wisdom while we worked together in the doctors office throughout the first years of marriage for Dale and I. Small wonder he grew to love you as much as I did! Counsellor and friend! Nothing has changed we are always both absolutely delighted to see you and have a quick catch-up visit.
You have always been an extremely classy lady! And you were, and always will be, so well loved and respected by all who knew you, what a loss we are all experiencing! Heaven is now so blessed to have you.

Sharing in the loss of Ardena to her family and friends. When it's all over, it's not what you were... it's whether you made a difference. What a difference Ardena made in the Castor community by her bubbly and kind personality.

Ardena was such a presence. She possessed such grace, humour, story-telling abilities and of course an impeccable sense of style. She was such fun and so enjoyed a good meal, a glass of wine, good conversation, some funny stories. I used to look forward to her visits when we came to Castor.
Our condolences to the family. Your mom will be greatly missed.

I am going to always remember Ardena as a women who loved life. She had a great smile that drew people to her and an enthusiasm to engage with people. She created a home of love & beauty with an atmosphere of hospitality.
She affected three generations in my family by being a friend to my mom, myself and my kids. We are thankful that God blessed us and Castor with such a vibrant woman to enrich our lives. May she rest in the presence of God’s peace and love.

We have so many wonderful memories of this beautiful lady. She had a great sense of humor, had all the time in the world for a visit, would tell you exactly what she thought, even if you didn't want to hear it (she was always right). We loved her so much and will miss her dearly. One memory comes to mind, just a couple of years ago, on New Year's Eve, Noel & Robin were at our house and the phone rang at 2am. It was Ardena, who had just arrived home from her own party, wondering if they needed her to come and give them a ride home!! Always the mom, even in her 90's. Life just won't be the same without her... Greg & Tammy Frank
