Obituary of Stan Gardner

Please share a memory of Stan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Stanley Allen Gardner was born on April 5, 1944 to Hugh and Druzzillia Gardner in Calgary, Alberta.  Stan had two older sisters Elaine and Marlene and two younger brothers Gordon and Howard.  He spent his school years in Bowness before moving to Erskine to work on various farms.

While in Erskine Stan met Barbara Ann Volker and they were married on September 12, 1964.  They welcomed their first child Leigh Ann on March 25, 1965, their second Timothy was born on April 7, 1966 and sadly passed two days later, the baby of the family Donald Hugh was born August 24, 1967.  Stan and Barb’s early family years were spent camping all around Alberta and BC in the summer, and winters were spent snowmobiling.

Stan was known to be a jack of all trades, working a number of various jobs over the years.  He worked in farming, autobody, drove truck and the school bus, he was the milkman, the Erskine school janitor, worked in the glass shop, and was most known for his work in construction with his cement business and his woodworking.  Grandpa could build you anything out of wood.  Stan was also known for his time spent on stage, singing and acting with Gilbert and Sullivan and later the Heartland Arts Troupe Society.

One of Stan's favorite activities in his free time was watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their extracurricular activities.  Grandpa was always at a hockey game, football game, or dance recital.  In the later years, Stan and Barb enjoyed touring Canada and the USA on the back of their motorcycle pulling their little tent trailer.

Stan is survived by his loving family, wife Barb; daughter Leigh (Gary) of White Sands; son Don (Nan) of Erskine; five grandchildren: Crystal (Del), Kari (Chad), Kyle, Amanda (Cody) and Tim (Maddie); seven great grandchildren: Dexter, Dalyce, Hailey, Dayton, Jett, Alivea and Annabelle; numerous nieces and nephews and his brother Gordon (Adrienne).  Stan was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Druzzillia; sisters Elaine and Marlene; brother Howard and his infant son Timothy.

A private family service will be held at the Stettler Funeral Home on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 2 P.M.  All are invited to view Stan’s funeral via webcast. Stan prided himself on his friends and family and will be greatly missed.
