Obituary of Richard Raymond Locke
In Memory of
Richard (Rick) Locke
1975 – 2021
Rick was born on June 28, 1975 in Stettler, Alberta and passed away February 6, 2021 in Victoria BC., at the age of 45 years. Rick spent his childhood years in Botha and went on to attend schools in Botha, Stettler and Leduc. Those who knew Rick knew that he would help anyone in need, he was outgoing, big hearted, fun loving, and lived life his way. He enjoyed camping and was an avid sportsman, a diehard Oilers fan and his love for hockey was undeniable. From his first pair of skates at age 2, he lived and breathed hockey and was fortunate enough to meet Team Canada at their training camp in Banff in August of 1984, meeting some of the best in the NHL and Oilers, including the Great One. Known as Rick “The Trick” Locke on the ice, in 1995, he was handpicked from Junior teams to go and play on the Western Jr. Selects All-Star team in the Czech Republic and Germany. He was also able to put his charm to use and pulled off getting a passport in 5 hours after numerous calls to Ottawa and other places to make the big trip. His adult years were spent working construction and Oilfield in various capacities all over Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC. In June of 2010, he was blessed with the birth of his baby girl, Alexa, his pride and joy. Rick loved spending any time he could with Alexa, especially swimming, camping, day trips to new places and to the farm.
Rick will be forever missed and leaves to mourn in his passing: daughter Alexa Locke of Rocky Mountain Hous; mother Donna (Ken) Wilkie of Halkirk; father Brian Locke, half brother and sister, Alec and Ashley of Edson; sister Shauna (Ryan) and nieces Brooke and Kara of Donalda, his forever friend and mother of Alexa, Danielle Cassell of Rocky Mountain House. Step sisters Nicole (Carmen) Cox of Stettler and Nadine (Shane) Lang of Gadsby; Auntie Jonni (Bob) Hegberg of Stettler; Uncle Doug (Helen) Swanson of Red Deer; Auntie Norma (Donnie) Bonham of Red Deer; Uncle Glen (Heather) Locke of London, England; Uncle Verne (Laurie) Locke of Edmonton, and his cousins; Rob (Laura) Hegberg, Jason (Sara) Hegberg, Jenn (Jim) MacDougall, Nan (Brad) Shybunka, Kyla (Julian) Price, Brent (Michelle) Jensen, Jana (Greg) Glimsdale and Toni Locke; as well as many relatives, friends and coworkers.
Rick was predeceased by his uncle Eddie Jensen; grandparents Dick and Gladys Swanson; Ray and Jeanne Locke.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Rick are gratefully accepted to a trust account for Alexa, in care of Shauna Wilkie at Vision Credit Union or to the charity of your choice.
