Obituary of Marie Young
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Marie Julia Young on February 27, 2021 at the Stettler Hospital after a brief battle with congestive heart failure at the amazing age of 96 years.
Born to Alfred and Regina Bezaire, in Bonnyville, Alberta, Marie was the second youngest child in the family of 12.
Marie married Delbert Young in 1946, and together raised their four children while farming in Beaverdam, Alberta.
Through her years, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, dancing, board games, Bingo, cards, cooking, and traveling. As a mother, wife and neighbour, she was known for her tasty fried chicken, sour cream raisin pies and her love of pickling.
After retiring from farming, she and Del moved to Cold Lake, Alberta. There, she worked as a cleaner at the air base, and later as a kitchen assistant at the Cold Lake Seniors Lodge. After losing her beloved Del in 1988, she chose to stay in Cold lake until 2006, when she moved to The Willow Creek Lodge in Stettler, Alberta where she flourished as the incredible independent woman she was.
Through the years The Lodge became her home in which she felt so comfortable. She made many friends and looked forward to the games and entertainment they provided.
Marie was very present in the lives of her family. She looked forward to attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s hockey games, ball games, and everything in between. She rarely missed the chance to experience every moment she could in her family's lives. Her love and devotion to family along with her never-ending kindness will be remembered by all.
She leaves to mourn, her sister Patricia Urbanowski; son Erwin (Gail) Young; daughters: Lois (Andre) Mercier, Phyllis (Greg) Verrier and Beverly Repchuk; one grand-daughter Kim Tillmar (Graham Adamson); five grandsons: Shane (Jennifer) Mercier, Kevin (Lisa) Repchuk, Robert (Tanya) Young, Raymond (Ryan)Young, Sean (Carmen)Verrier; fourteen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Regina, husband Delbert, one grandson Ryan Young, two sons in law Allan Repchuk and Richard Blackmore, grandson-in-law Shawn Tillmar, as well as her numerous siblings.
As the family, we would like to extend our sincere thank you to the staff at The Willow Creek Lodge, as well as the staff at the Stettler Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. We would like to express a very special thank you to Dr Du Toit, who was her caring physician throughout her years.
At Marie's request, there will be no funeral services. She will be laid to rest in Cold Lake, Alberta alongside her husband Del. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s honour to The Willow Creek Lodge Activities.
