Meyer, Doris Margaret (Henke)

November 22, 1927 – July 28, 2020

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Doris Meyer.

Born in Oyen, Alberta, Doris grew up on a small farm near the village of Excel.  She completed her high school in Didsbury and took her teacher training in Calgary.  Her first teaching assignment was at the Science Mound country school just outside of the Village of Donalda.  She later taught at the Donalda School.  After many years of farming, she and her husband Heinz retired to Stettler in 1991 where they built themselves a new home.  After Heinz’s death, she married Neville Meyer.  For their honeymoon she took her first plane trip – to Australia!  They enjoyed many years of camping, fishing and travelling.  Neville loved to drive and they toured Canada and parts of the United States.  Upon Neville’s death in 2013, she moved to the Willow Creek Lodge in Stettler.  She participated in and thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow residents, and regularly won bingo games.  Doris will be greatly missed by friends and neighbors.

Doris is lovingly remembered and missed by sister Mabel Cordell, son Keray Henke (Murray), daughter Kay Henke, grandchildren Aaron (Kim), Joseph (Kim), David and Steven, and great-grandchildren William, Bennett, Riley and Penelope.  Doris was predeceased by eight siblings.  She was also loved and will be missed by numerous friends.

Doris was predeceased by her husband Heinz Henke in 1992, and having remarried, by her husband Neville Meyer in 2013.

Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre and particularly to the staff and residents of the Willow Creek Lodge for their care and compassion over the past few years.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler, Alberta.  Due to Covid 19 Restrictions by invitation only.

Donations in memory of Doris are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
