Obituary of Donald Allen Heikkinen

Donald Allan Heikkinen, age 71 passed away at home on Tuesday July 21, 2020 in Big Valley AB Don was born on November 12, 1948 to Effie and Fred Heikkinen, he was raised in Nacmine, went to elementary school in Nacmine and then attended Drumheller composite High School

 

Don started his career in Calgary at the Gulf refinery and when the Calgary facility closed down, he was transferred to Moose Jaw Saskatchewan to a refinery that eventually became Moose Jaw Asphalt.

 

Don retired in 2003 and moved to Big Valley to join his fiancé Susan Stewart.

 

In Dons younger years, he loved hunting, fishing and spending his time with family and friends, making people laugh and helping whenever he could. After moving to Big Valley Don and Susan made some memorable trips with Dons nephew Brian salmon fishing in the Queen Charlotte Islands, camping with his sisters, nieces and nephews and camping with friends in the mountains. Don and Susan spent winters in Alabama fishing from the pier in Gulf Shores. Don made many good friends there and he will be missed by all his fishing buddies.

 

Don was predeceased by his parents Fred and Effie, brothers Davey, Johnny and Keith. He is survived by his long time companion Susan, sisters Joyce (Mel) Witwicki of Lethbridge, Bernice (John) Anderson of Red Deer,

and numerous nieces, nephews.

 

At Dons request there will be no service.
