Obituary of Jim Greig
James Stuart Henry Greig
"Jim"
1939 - 2020
James Stuart Henry Greig was born November 15, 1939 in Vermilion, Alberta and passed away peacefully on June 25, 2020 in Stettler, Alberta. Born to Robert and Gwen Greig, oldest of three sons.
Jim’s farming career began in his early years at Trochu with his dad. They had a mixed farming operation, cattle, and grain. When he was only 16 years old, they packed up and moved to a farm south of Big Valley. He continued to have a mixed farming operation until his retirement in the Spring of 2002.
Jim loved to farm! He was a jack of all trades, always welding, and being a mechanic or building something with wood. Spent many hours in his well-organized heated shop. Such a perfectionist, he was very proud of his farm. Always enjoyed neighborhood gatherings and spring branding events. Took up curling in earlier years, and golf in later years.
Jim married Myra Bignell August 15, 1964 and would have celebrated 56 years in August. To this union Darcey, Marty and Jacqueline were born. Soon they were all married and then the grandchildren quickly arrived. Chelsey in February 1992, Stuart December 1992, Travis October 1993, Ciana November 1993, Craig February 1996, Kasandra October 1997, Jordan March 1998, and Miranda November 2003. Jim loved spending time with all of them, at the farm or on the golf course.
After retirement, Jim and Myra moved into Big Valley the Spring of 2002. They were able to enjoy life and ended up traveling to Scotland and England during the summer of 2003. They enjoyed golfing and visiting with their neighbours in Big Valley.
Jim had a stroke April 2008, leaving him partially paralyzed. Myra took care of him for the next seven years, with extra help from Home Care. In November of 2015 Jim’s new residence became a room in Points West. He enjoyed visiting with anyone that would stop in. The staff took great care of him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Myra Greig of Stettler; children Darcey (Teresa) Greig of Big Valley, Marty (Shelly) Greig of Strathmore and Jacqueline (Alan) Zweifel of Stettler; grandchildren: Chelsey, Travis (Jenn), Kasandra, Stuart, Ciana, Craig, Jordan and Miranda; as well as other relatives and many dear friends.
Private Family Service will be held at the Lake View Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the Big Valley Fire Department.
