Lillyetta (May) Melnyk

Feb 29, 1932 – Apr 19, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother & Friend.

May was born on Feb 29th 1932 to Thomas & Charlotte Humphries & lived on the farm in the Moose Creek area near Carlyle, Saskatchewan with her older brothers Ralph & Ivan.  She attended the Moose Creek Rural School & later attended secretarial school in Regina & worked for B/A Oil where she met her husband John.  They married on October 24, 1953 in Big Valley, Alberta and raised 3 children together while enjoying a busy life in the oil industry moving between Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta until they retired in Calgary where May enjoyed gardening, a passion for arts & crafts, her Corgis, her children & grandchildren. 

May loved returning to the family cabin at White Bear Lake on Crescent Beach where she enjoyed spending the summers with her children, nieces & nephews and later grandchildren.  She loved looking after the extended family, playing on the beach, fishing & baking saskatoon pies. She loved animals and animals loved her.

May passed away quietly at age 88 after celebrating her (22nd birthday) and was preceded in death by her husband John on May 8, 2018 & her brothers Ralph & Ivan. May is survived by her 3 children, 9 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren; Sherry (Jim) Younker & her children Joel, Jordana, Josh & Jamie; John (Angsana) Melnyk & his children Katherine, Alex & Patra; Michael (Deborah) Melnyk & his children Spencer & Samantha. Nana’s love & friendship will be deeply missed by her children & grandchildren.

The family wants to give special thanks for the loving care she received at Dulcina Hospice, AgeCare Glenmore & Extendicare Hillcrest.

Interment will take place on April 23, 2020 at Lake View Cemetery, Stettler, Alberta.
