Obituary of Dean Burns
Ordean “Dean” Allen Burns passed away peacefully at the Stettler Hospital on March 17, 2011 at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dean was born on the farm on March 29, 1942 to parents Johnny and Hazel Burns. Dean had a way with horses and loved to work with them. He was most happy out riding his saddle horse or driving his team and giving sleigh rides in the winter. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and coffee with friends, playing with his grandkids, playing cards, and a good Western on TV. Dean was always there to help his friends or family and could build anything with precision. Dean is lovingly remembered by his children Dale (Tammy) Burns of Hanna, Dallas (Carla) Burns of Rumsey, and Dana Burns of Calgary. As well as grandchildren Denton, Macey, Cauy and Caul. He is also survived by his siblings Nora Schatz, Juanita Enns, Nowella Smithson, Geraldine Schatz, Beatrice Goudreault, and Margaret Braithwaite. Dean was predeceased by his father Johnny, mother Hazel, brother Robert and sister Maxine Smerdley.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Mayerthorpe Legion. Family and friends attended and shared stories, reflections, tributes and special music in celebration of Dean’s life. Interment followed in the Mayerthorpe Cemetery with Joe Golden, Eddie Evarts, Rilley Evarts and Wayne Fischer as pallbearers. Family and friends then gathered together in the Legion for a time of sharing and fellowship. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made in Dean’s memory to the CPRA Sports Medicine Team or to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
