Obituary
Obituary of Esther Florence Deems
Esther was known to her family as Mom, Grandma or Grandma Great. Esther was born to parents Thom and Anna Havig.
Esther was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Harold, Arnold, Milton, Alice and Stanley, husband Howard, son Ronald, granddaughter
Jo Anne and great grandson Ronald.
Esther left home at an early age to act as a housekeeper and nanny. It was at one of these jobs that she met the ‘Love of her Life!’ While working for Fern and Dave Marshall – they were wondering why Howard (Fern’s brother) was visiting more often than usual.
They were married on November 17, 1938. Howard passed away on September 16, 2002 – shortly before their 64th Wedding Anniversary.
They lived on the farm – just a mile down the road from where Howard was born. They remained in the district until 2002 when Esther moved to Stettler and then later to Calgary at Prince of Peace in 2010. She had become a fall risk and a short time before her 100th birthday she had taken up residence at George Boyack, until her passing.
Their only son Ronald Walter Deems was born in 1939. Followed by Dianna in 1945, Darlene in 1948 and Barbara in 1957. Esther was a member of the Erskine UCW, The Union Hall Good Times Club, Rebekah Lodge and The Charolettes.
Some of her favorite hobbies were knitting, sewing, quilting, doing puzzles and an avid member of the Wednesday Card Club.
Mom enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers. Her favorites were Glads and Hollyhocks. You could always look out the kitchen window and see the many birds she had attracted. Even more important was her evening drive with Dad to check the cattle.
A special thank you to Ellen Oneski for her attentive care and support for our Mother. Ellen made sure that her nails were always painted and her hair done. She was totally a favorite as Ellen allowed Mom to win 90% of the games that they played.
Esther leaves to mourn her passing a loving family: daughter-in-law Donna Combest, daughters Dianna (Dave) Barclay, Darlene (Jim) Underwood, Barbara (Renaud) Doiron; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren: Derwin (Linda) Deems, Lee (Sherry) Deems, Kimberly Deems, Carrie, Hunter, Henry Deems, Raymond (Erin) Deems, Ryan (Amber), Jack Deems, Trente Barclay, Tracy (Grant), Taylyn, Brody Jameson, Troy (April), Jayden, David, Brooklyn Barclay, Tryston (Kathy), Ryley, Cooper Barclay, Kelly (Darcy) Harty, Madyson, Megan Schmidt, Kevin (Brianne), Ruby, Christian, Leo Underwood, Chantalle (Eric) Croy, Stephanie, Noah Doiron, Dylan Doiron.
