Obituary of Earl Edward Baltimore

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Earl Baltimore on February 17, 2011 at the age of 82 years. Earl was born on April 19, 1928 at Loyalist, Alberta, the second child of Edward and Martha (nee Mogck) Baltimore. The family lived at various locations in east central Alberta eventually settling in Alliance, Alberta. As a young man, Earl was an exceptional athlete playing baseball, fastball, hockey and boxing competitively. One of his many accomplishments was winning a Northern Alberta Heavyweight Boxing title. It was in Alliance that Earl met the love of his life Dorothy Mae (Joy) Johnston whom he married on August 23, 1950. Earl and Joy worked and lived in the Yukon until 1957 when they moved to Edmonton where Earl was based as a territory manager for the Cockshutt farm equipment company. Earl, Joy and kids moved from Edmonton to Camrose and then to Stettler, Alberta where Earl, with brother Joe and then with son Darrel owned and operated the local Cockshutt and Case Farm Equipment Dealership. While still in business in Stettler, Earl became involved in the purebred cattle business and along with son Doug was a successful breeder of Limousin cattle under the Double E Limousin banner. He also started raising purebred horses putting together an exceptional stable of both registered paints and registered quarter horses. Earl was always an active and generous supporter and sponsor of many community activities and fundraisers. Over the years Earl became an avid golfer both in Stettler and later in Phoenix, where he and Joy spent parts of many winters together and where they made many long lasting friendships. Earl is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joy, 3 sons, Bryon (Linda), Darrel (MaryAnn), and Doug ( Lisa) and one daughter Judy (Terry) Ireland, 8 grandchildren Jenice (David), David Alexis (Josh), Katelyn (Ryan), Brittany, Kyle, Danielle and Nicole and one great granddaughter Leah. He is also survived by brothers Elmer (Syneva), Ken (Marg), Joe (Joan), Pat (Bev) and sister Sarah Odegard as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on Wednesday February 23, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heartland Chapel of the Stettler Funeral Home with Rev. Debbie Stockdale officiating. Earl’s son Bryon gave a loving tribute to his father and memories of Grandpa were shared by Jenice Fukushima on behalf of the grandchildren. Evelyn Strandquist led the hymns on the organ. Long time friend Gary Fix sang “Amazing Grace”. A song very special to the family “Hallelujah” was played. Honorary pallbearers were Elmer Baltimore, Joe Baltimore, David Baltimore, Ken Baltimore, Pat Baltimore, and Kyle Baltimore. Following the service family and friends gathered together in the reception center of the Stettler Funeral Home for a time of sharing food and fellowship.
