Obituary of Ruby Lena Reineberg

Ruby Reineberg passed away in Stettler, Alberta, on November 15, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born near Big Valley on December 31, 1923 to Jim and Rose McBride and grew up there with her nine brothers and sisters. After moving to Stettler to work, she met Carl Reineberg, and they were married on October 21, 1943. While living on the farm north of Stettler, they raised their three daughters, Jeanette, Faye and Bonnie. When Ruby was about 50, she went back to school to become a hairdresser. She bought her own shop, which she named M’ Ladies, where she enjoyed the business and working with friends and clients. Ruby and Carl celebrated about 50 years of farming, and then when they retired, they moved into Stettler. During those years, they had worked hard, had wonderful trips together, but above all, valued family. After Carl passed away, she moved to a Spruce Terrace condominium. Ruby enjoyed her 20-year association with the Eastern Star and her 17 years volunteering at the hospital gift shop. Also, she belonged to the Stettler Legion and Royal Purple, and she sang in the United Church choir. Ruby enjoyed gardening, knitting and many other creative hobbies. When she needed more care, Ruby moved to Willow Creek Lodge, then to Points West and finally to Heritage House at the hospital. She appreciated their hardworking staff and kindly, thoughtful care. Ruby is survived by her loving daughters Jeanette (George) Akers of Edmonton, Faye (Walt) Holt of Calgary, Bonnie (John) Ireland of Stettler, their children Danny Akers, Tobin, Mark and Graham Holt, Ben and Rose Ireland and great grandchildren Kate and Jeremy Holt. She was predeceased by her husband Carl, her parents Rose and Jim McBride, nine siblings and their spouses. Her funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., December 2 at the Stettler Funeral Home with Jan Richardson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stettler Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
