Obituary of Winifred "Winnie" Elsie Woffindin
Winnie was born at home on November 23, 1916 to Nellie and Fred Fewkes who were homesteaders in the Gadsby Lake area. She passed away on October 13, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband Henry Mitchell Woffindin in 1986.
Winnie took her schooling at Gadsby Lake School, living and working on the family farm until she married Hal in 1940. Hal enlisted in the Army during the Second World War in the same year.
Winnie and Hal raised two sons, Henry Keith and William David on the family farm. Winnie was a devoted wife and mother who spent much of her time farming, gardening and cooking for family and friends. She was a member of the Anglican Church, Gadsby Lake Ladies Club, Nebraska Square Dance Club and the Tees 50 plus group. Winnie is survived by her two sons Henry Keith (Lynn) and William David (Althea); five granddaughters: Kristi (Michael), Nicole (Ken), Melanie (Michael), April (Donovan) and Amber (Jody); eleven great grandchildren: Tyler, Chassidy, Riley, Nickolas, Jordon, Alexandra, Andrew, Eric, Sydney, Ava and Henry. Winnie was predeceased by her mother Nellie, father Fred, sisters Dorothy and Norah and brother George.
Winnie left the family farm in 2008 to live in the Lacombe Senior’s Lodge. In 2014 she moved to Points West Living in Stettler where she stayed until her passing. The family would like to thank the staff of Points West Living for their loving care of Winnie throughout her stay and especially in her last few days. Winnie was a loving, kind and generous person who will be deeply missed. We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
