Obituary of Shirley Ethel Campbell
Shirley was born on the family farm near Leo, Alberta on October 30, 1934, the 5th child of Ellis and Mary Riggins and passed away at Hanna, Alberta on June 21, 2017 at the age of 82.
She took her schooling at Leo, Wolf hill and finished her grade 10 at Byemoor. Then the next year she stayed at home to help her dad farm. Here she met Les Campbell and decided her future would be a farmer’s wife and they married on December 17, 1952. To this union six children were born: Joann, Joyce, Betty, Bob, Randy and Dennis.
She always had a large garden which was preserved for the winter and there was always fresh baked bread, cakes, cookies etc. Most of us kids were active in sports and mom was always there to cheer us on.
Shirley still lived on the farm and would be seen drinking a cup of coffee on the deck early in the morning watching her hummingbirds.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband Les in 1993, her parents, granddaughter Amy, 4 brothers Ranold, Gary, Donald and Monte.
She is survived by her six children Joann Gonda (Dean), Joyce Campbell (Bruce), Betty Campbell, Bob & Janet Campbell, Randy & Corey Campbell and Dennis & Wendy Campbell; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, brother Jim (Ruth), sisters Blanche, Muriel, Lorraine, Darlene, Viola (Smitty), Patricia and Cheryl and many more family and dear friends.
She will always be remembered by her laugh and the grandchildren & greatgrandchildren by her big bear hugs.
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 2:00P.M. in the Byemoor Community Hall, Byemoor, Alberta. Donations in memory are gratefully accepted to S.T.A.R.S. or a local charity of your choice.
