Obituary of John (Jack) Kenneth Simon
It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Kenneth Simon on 12 February 2017 at the age of 67 in Kihei, Hawaii. Jack leaves behind Elaine (née Jones), his beloved wife of 44 years, a daughter Jacqueline (Jez) Littlewood, and two sons Jeffrey (Tricia) and Neil (Megan), 7 grandchildren: Simon, Sidney, Benjamin, Emily, Neeva, Conway and Ethan, nieces Pamela (Eric) Amulaku and Karen (Maluk) Ayum, and their children Shela, Eunice, and Galaxia. Jack is also survived by his sisters Barbara Lutz, Judy Pitt, June Taskey, Joyce Garneau and Patricia DeWitt and their families. He leaves behind many, many good friends and extended family as well.
Jack and his twin sister Judy were born in Stettler, Alberta on 24 March 1949 to parents Kenneth and Winnifred (née Baugh) Simon. Jack was particularly close to his father and grew up working with his Dad at Imperial Oil. Following graduation from Wm. E. Hay Composite High School in Stettler, Jack worked in Calgary and attended Olds College before training to become a recreational vehicle technician and opening Simon’s R.V. Service Centre with his father Ken in 1976. Simon’s R.V. was a huge part of Jack’s life for 30 years, as was running J&K Farms, first with his father and then with the assistance of his sons. After his ‘retirement’ Jack worked as a fire extinguisher technician for Napa Autoparts and provided invaluable assistance, advice and knowledge to Jeff at Generations R.V. Retirement also allowed him to spend more time engaged in his favorite activity, being an amazing grandfather.
Jack was a devoted family man, friend and neighbor and an active member of his community. He will be unbearably missed.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Stettler United Church at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday 22 February 2017. Memorial donations in Jack’s honour may be made to the Mazankowski Heart Institute in Edmonton or to the Stettler United Church.
