Obituary of Florence Margaret Crawford
Florence Margaret Crawford, life long resident of the Stettler area, passed away August 6, 2016 at her home at Points West Living at the age of 98 years. Florence was born on March 17, 1918 to Jacob and Katherine Bender. She was their fourth and youngest child. She is survived by her children: Delmer (Paulette), Gary, Bonnie Jean (Ken) and Ross; grandchildren: Gordon (Yiyan), Graham (Kathleen), Kevin (Jayme), Curtis, Scott (Natalie), Lori Jean (David); great grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Daniel and Carter; as well as many friends.
Florence started her schooling at Fritz Hill School and completed her high school at Stettler High School. In 1936 she attended Camrose Normal School and graduated with a Grade A teaching certificate. She taught school at Aunger, Scales and Laketon Schools.
On July 22, 1941 she married Austin Crawford and they began farming together in the Fenn district. She raised chickens and sold hatching eggs for many years. Her garden was always large and she generously shared any surplus.
Florence joined the Fenn Ladies Club in 1941 and enjoyed her connections to this group for over 70 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stettler where she taught Sunday school, helped in the nursery and served on the lunch committee. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made many items for her family.
She was predeceased by her siblings: Rosanna Sivacoe, Mildred Riddell and Percy Bender; her husband Austin and daughter in law Alva.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Stettler Funeral Home with burial at Lakeview Fenn Cemetery and a luncheon at the Fenn Community Hall served by the Fenn Ladies Club. Memorial donations may be made to The Gideons.
