Obituary of Elsie Katherine Hronek
Please share a memory of Elsie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elsie Katherine Hronek (Kobi) was born to Emil and Barbara Kobi on June 27, 1923 at Endiang, Alberta. She was the second youngest and had eight siblings. She loved being outdoors with her first love being horses. Elsie also loved going to dances and eventually met the love of her life, Benjamin Stanley Hronek.
Ben and Elsie were married on October 24, 1941 and then bought their homestead north of Halkirk in 1942. Together they worked on the farm and did trucking of grain, coal, and cattle. They also enjoyed hunting together and had three children, Stanley, Lavonne, and Duanne a few years later.
Elsie had a green thumb and loved birds, especially hummingbirds. Her yard was immaculate with beautiful flowers and greenery, as well as she had a huge garden. Every year it would produce a huge surplus and she would do a lot of picking and canning. She loved being a homemaker and every Sunday she would cook lunch and supper for the family prior to going into Pines Lodge in Red Deer, in April 2016. A couple years later she moved into Points West in Stettler where she passed away peacefully on January 11, 2020 at 96 years old.
Elsie is lovingly remembered by her family, children: Stanley (Fran) Hronek, Lavonne Smith and Duanne Hronek; grandchildren: Teresa (Greg) Godbersen, Troy Hronek (Faye Mielke), Tiara (Doug) Janke and Tyler Hronek (Hannah Tassell), Kourtney Hronek (Chris Jickling) and Kassidy Hronek; great grandchildren: Kyle Godbersen, Daniel Godbersen, Candice Godbersen (Tristan vanZandbergen), Abbigail Dryden, Benjamin Janke and Isac Hronek; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many dear friends.
Elsie is predeceased by her parents Emil and Barbara, and all of her siblings: Emil Jr., Mary, Herman, Annie (Carless), Bill, Henry, Ernie, and Bessie (Boss) as well as her husband Ben Hronek, and son-in-law Gordon “Smitty” Smith.
A private family celebration of Elsie’s life will take place.
Donations in Elsie’s memory are gratefully accepted to a charity of your choice.
