Obituary of Margaret Diane Bignell

Margaret (Diane) Bignell was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 27, 1947. She was the only child of Bill and Mary Lancaster, where she grew up in Oakville, Ontario. Margaret (Diane) pursued her Bachelor of Nursing Degree and graduated from the University of Toronto, while working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto. Later she moved to British Columbia in 1978 where she met her loving partner and best friend Donald Bignell. On July 31, 1981 they were married and lived in White Rock, BC. They later moved to Barrier, BC in 1993 and settled on a small farm where she expressed her love for animals with her sheep, lambs and dogs meanwhile still fulfilling her nursing career. Wanting to be closer to family Don and Diane moved to Mirror in 1998 to share in the joy of her love of animals, spending time with her husband, grandchildren, family and dear friends. She retired in the spring of 2014 from a dedicated 45 years of her nursing career. Diane passed away at the Lacombe Hospital on May 30, 2015 surrounded by her family and dear friends. Diane is survived by her husband Don Bignell of Mirror; step children Melvin (Carrie) of Bawlf, Sandra (Dean) of Lashburn, SK and Cheryl (Peter) of Winnipeg, Kim (Troy) of Camrose; 11grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law: Kendall (Shirley), Jerry (Annabelle), Myra (Jim) Greig, Sharon Duncan and Dixie Bignell; aunts Frances Bignell and Jenny Rottenfusser; as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents Mary and Bill Lancaster, parents in law Chester and Gertrude Bignell, brothers in law Lloyd Bignell and Lloyd Duncan. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home, 4707-70 Street, directly south of Wal-Mart.
