Obituary of Ethel Margaret Platz

Ethel Margaret Platz was born in Alliance, Alberta, October 17, 1914 to Hector and Maude McPherson. She attended Alliance School to grade 7 and Bridgeport Richmond Public School in BC for high school. She became a qualified hairdresser in January of 1935 earning her certificate in Vancouver, BC at which time she then moved back to Alberta. Ethel was united in marriage to Irven (Hank) Platz in June 1939 and to this union two children were born, Beverley Ann in 1940 and Ronald Irven in 1944. Ethel and Irven farmed in Alliance for many years and also ran the local hotel restaurant for a while. Ethel also worked for a time in Spady’s General Store and then managed the Alliance Drug Store for a number of years until she retired. Ethel leaves to mourn her passing one sister Heather (Don) Wilson, daughter Bev (Pat) Baltimore and son Ron (Lynn) Platz; grandchildren: Aron Platz and family, Robin (Terry) Gardner, Kim (Heather) Baltimore and Terry (Brenda) Baltimore; great grandchildren: Jordyn, Lauren, Connor and Logan; a number of nieces and nephews who meant the world to her; along with numerous friends and acquaintances. She will be honoured in a Celebration of Life Tea in the Alliance Hall, Alliance, Alberta on June 7, 2012 from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Alliance Legion or to Alberta Cancer Foundation.
