Obituary of Louise Pauline Fischer
Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louise was born March 3, 1922, on the farm southeast of Stettler, to Paul H. and Anna Scheerschmidt, the eldest of six children. She passed away peacefully on October 26, 2019 at Heritage House at the age of 97 years.
Louise received her schooling at the Kindergarten School, adjacent to the family farm, she had a difficult time at first as she only spoke German. Louise had a strong Christian upbringing (largely due to her grandfather John George Rock). She was baptized at the Kindergarten Lutheran Church and later confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church near Bashaw. Mom continued her walk in faith attending St. Peter Lutheran Church in Stettler.
On December 1, 1942 Louise was united in marriage to Chris Fischer. They farmed in the Linda Hall district for many years before moving to Stettler in 1986.
Mom enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, gardening and picking saskatoons. In later years she liked camping and would cheer on Lou’s Crew at slo-pitch tournaments. She was a very hard worker on the farm and also with the organizations she belonged to. She was active in the community belonging to several clubs and volunteered at Superfluity thrift shop for many years. She had a great love for animals both large and small. Family and friends were very important to her. People always commented on her great smile and demeanour.
Louise leaves to mourn her passing, son: Ken (Dianne) Fischer; two daughters: Judy (Greg) Ford and Karen Fischer all of Stettler; grandchildren: Audra and Kent Fischer of Stettler, Terra (Robin) Furminger of Sturgeon County and Nathan (Kimberley) Ford of Airdrie, as well as one special great-grandson Jase Ford of Airdrie who referred to her as my “great old grandma”, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Chris; parents Paul H. and Anna Scheerschmidt; brothers Henry (Hank) Scheerschmidt, Louie Scheerschmidt and Jim Scheerschmidt; sisters Irene Benson and Dorothy Scheerschmidt; sisters-in-law Kay Scheerschmidt, Elaine Scheerschmidt and Ivy Scheerschmidt and brother-in law Gene Benson; niece Pam Benson; nephews Rod Mailer and Ivan Storek and great-niece Brittany Scheerschmidt-Lutz.
