CRAWFORD, Frederick Harvey – At the age of 90 years, Fred passed away peacefully on Sunday March 4, 2012 in his room at Heritage House in Stettler, with his daughter Brenda by his side. He is now once again able to do all of the things that he so enjoyed in life that over the past few years had slowly been taken away from him. He will be missed, although we are glad that his suffering is now over.
Fred was born on February 9, 1922 in Castor, and lived his entire life in Alberta. His early years were spent on the farm in Byemoor, followed by homes in Bearspaw, Calgary and Stettler. He loved to play ball and curl, travel in his RV, dance with Marion, spend time with his family, and visit with all who dropped in to see him. Fred married Marion (Hayes) in July 1948 and stayed on the family farm. Before they had any children, they both loved having Fred’s nieces and nephews spend the summers with them on the farm. Fred was not a farmer at heart and when the opportunity arose he moved his family to Bearspaw and started a new chapter in his life. Fred worked on a paving crew, for Surge Milk Equipment Company, and drove a delivery truck for Revelstoke Lumber before retiring and that is when he and Marion took to the open road and travelled in their RV. Upon the death of his first wife, Fred moved to Paragon Place in Stettler, where he once again found happiness and he married Rose in 2005.
Fred was predeceased by his parents (James and Isabella Crawford); all of his siblings and their spouses (Betty & Al Wilson, Jimmie & Mayme Crawford; Monnie & Bob Brown; Dolly & Cecil Lyon; Bill Crawford); as well as his first wife Marion (2002); second wife Rose (2011); son Johnny (1959); daughter Linda (1998) and son-in-law Lee (1994); as well as Rose’s son Barry.
Fred leaves to mourn his daughters Shirley (David) Hawco, Brenda Jones, Judy Crawford and Marie (Don) Isaman; his honorary daughter Val Schultz; his grandchildren Matthew (Kristen) Jones, Ryan Hawco, James (Jenn) Hawco, Amanda (Alexandre) Jones, Jeff (Darlene) Crawford, Sammantha (Luke) Reinhardt, Derek Isaman, Melissa Isaman and Thomas Isaman; his great-grandchildren MacKenzie, Jackson, Rogan, Degan and Zack; several nieces and nephews, Rose’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his many friends.
A celebration of Fred’s life was held on Friday, March 9, 2012 in the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home with Celebrant Todd Reinholt officiating. Fred’s grandson Ryan Hawco served as candle lighter and granddaughter Amanda Jones gave a loving eulogy and prepared and presented a pictorial tribute. Pianist and soloist Nathan Mullen presented his gift of music. Following the service family and friends joined together in the Heartland Fellowship Hall for a time of fellowship and luncheon prepared and served by Teresa’s Catering. If friends desire donations may be made to Byemoor Cemetery or Stettler Health Services Foundation.
