Obituary of Corey Cameron Easton

Corey was born on August 8, 1990 at the Stettler Hospital. He also lived in Camrose with his family before moving to Ontario at the age of 1. In Ontario, Corey attended a few different public schools and always made friends wherever he went. Corey enjoyed sports growing up; even though he was just over 5 feet tall, Corey was always 6’6” in his head. Moving back to Stettler, at the age of 13, Corey made many friends fast and was nicknamed “Sprout” by his closest friends. Once you met Corey you would never forget him. At the age of 16, Corey was diagnosed with having a brain tumour on his pituitary gland. He spent about a week in the Edmonton Stollery Children’s Hospital going through surgery and recovery. Corey acted as if nothing had happened, he never let it affect him or who he was and he always stayed strong and positive. Corey graduated from Wm. E. Hay Composite High School in 2008. At the age of 18 Corey moved out of his aunt and uncle’s house with big dreams and the strong urge to be independent. He would talk about joining the Army or being a mechanic, but was in no rush. He stayed with his older sister on and off throughout the last 3 ½ years. Corey roomed with his best friends and brother at one point, as well as living on his own in a nice little basement suite that was perfect for him. Corey started working at the age of 10 selling chocolate bars in Kingston, Napanee, Toronto and even Nova Scotia. In Stettler he worked at A&W, KFC, SK Welding and at the steam train! It was here that you could usually find him entertaining passengers on train days and the staff on maintenance days. Always singing and telling jokes, Corey made you want to smile. Corey didn’t like asking for help, but was always the first to offer it. He could sell a chocolate bar to a diabetic. He was blessed with the gift of gab and could get away with doing things that a lot of us couldn’t! Corey never had a solid plan, but he always had a dream. Corey would want to be remembered as a decent person, a person who had fun and lived life to the fullest. All Corey ever wanted out of life was for everyone to be proud of him. Corey’s short life ended on Saturday, February 11, 2012 when he passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at the age of 21. Corey is survived by numerous family members and many very dear friends. A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home with Reverend Jack Schulze officiating. A slideshow of Corey’s life accompanied by some of his favorite songs was lovingly prepared and presented by his sister and brother. Corey’s very dear friends paid tribute to him with special words of remembrance. Following the service family and friends joined together for a time of fellowship and a luncheon.
