Obituary of Alvin August Bergstrom

Alvin August Bergstrom August 16, 1930 ~ January 6, 2012 Alvin was born August 16, 1930 in Stettler, Alberta to Vanja and Seth Bergstrom. Alvin took his schooling in Donalda. On October 4, 1953 he was married to Bernice Lundell, to this union 7 children were born: Terry, Albern, Randy, Regan, Rick, Monna and Murray. Alvin welded in Donalda, ran County road grader in the Bashaw area and worked for Johnny Gust. In 1962, the family moved from Bashaw to the farm east of Meeting Creek. Here, he farmed and welded, working away at times and welding for neighbors and friends. Alvin was known for fixing and making things with the metal scraps he kept piled around the yard. He spent many months in Castor building Centennial Rig #3. If he was at home, Alvin was involved in the community; driving school bus, driving bus for the Drum and Bugle Band and the Majorettes to Camrose, touring all around Alberta and British Columbia for parades and playing Santa at school and church Christmas concerts. He enjoyed his little team of grey horses and made the sleigh and buggy that he pulled behind them to give rides. Alvin was proud to watch all 5 of his sons playing hockey on the same line together as adults. He liked music and dancing. He played the accordion, piano, guitar, banjo and mouth organ. He had one favorite song he played repeatedly, which we all remember. In his later years, Alvin enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Just this past Christmas Eve, Alvin smiled as he met his newest great grandson. It was the babies and great grandchildren that meant the most to him and always brought a smile to his face these past years in Hospital. Alvin is survived by his loving family: children: Terry (Carl) Nordahl, Albern (Janet), Randy (Connie), Regan (Judy), Rick, Monna (John) Rathwell, Murray and their mother Bernice; grandchildren: Carissa, Jennifer, Leah (Fredrik) Thellbro, Julie (Mark) Siemens, Nicole (Brook) Doan, Robert (Melissa), Curtis (Chelsea), Becky, Heidi, Rachel, Angela (Nick) Holden, Steven, Veronica, Christian, Jonathan, Brianna, Jordan, Dylan and Dallas; 11 great grandchildren; sister Ruby Swedberg; numerous other family members and many dear friends.
