Richard Adolph Marquart

We are here today to celebrate the life of Richard (Ric) Marquart and to say good bye to a wonderful man.
Richard Adolph Marquart was born on April 7th, 1931 to his parents Adolph and Olga Marquart. He grew up on a farm east of Castor with his brothers Edward and Raymond. He attended Rosetta School and finished his education in Castor, Alberta. After leaving school, Ric farmed with his brother Edward east of Castor and also worked for a powerline maintenance company.
Ric married Erma Hein on April 5th, 1955. They enjoyed almost 63 years together with Erma supporting him both on the farm and in the home. They initially rented a farm two miles south of Castor and then bought their farm one mile north of Castor where they operated a mixed farm and dairy operation. Ric loved farming and gardening, and for years, was part of the Simmental Association and 4H Club.
Ric was always active with his community enjoying boating, curling, floor curling, fishing and board games. In his younger years, Ric enjoyed playing fastball with a team called “The Big Three.”
At age of 22, Ric accepted The Lord at a Youth for Christ meeting and had a close relationship with The Lord until he passed away. Ric served the Castor Evangelical Missionary Church as a Board Member and a Youth Leader.
Ric was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Olga Marquart and his brother Edward Marquart.
He is survived by his loving wife Erma of 63 years; daughters Julie (Winston) of Okotoks, Bonnie (Wallace) of Stettler; sons Dale (Denise) of Castor and Darcy (Cassie) of Red Deer; his brother Raymond (Bev) of Castor; sister-in-law Olga Marquart of Castor; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. His kindness and willingness to help others will always be remembered.
Ric passed away peacefully in Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital Extended Care in Castor, Alberta on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 87 years of age.
Funeral services were held at Evangelical Missionary Church on February 6, 2019 with Rev. Art Hein and Pastor Brent Siemens officiating. Loving tributes and pictorial tribute were given by the grandchildren; as well friends Clarence Harder and Dale Jones shared their memories. Pianist Tricia Kirby, soloist Donna Boettcher and leader of song Debbie Weeks offered their gifts of music.
Richard was laid to rest at Castor Municipal Cemetery with Honorary Pallbearers Walter and Genevieve Blume, Cliff and Pat Campbell, Clarence and Ann Harder, Ray and Eleanor Merkus and serving as Active Pallbearers were Jason McFarland, Tyler Tsang, Burke Hausch, Levi Baker, Cody Marquart, Jamie Marquart and Caleb Marquart.
Family and friends gathered in the upper hall for a time of fellowship and a luncheon by the Women’s Ministry. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital Foundation~Palliative Care or a charity of your own choice.
