Obituary of Marvin Francis Reynolds

Please share a memory of Marvin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marvin Francis Reynolds passed away in Stettler, Alberta on September 30, 2019. He was born January 15, 1942 and was 77 years of age at the time of his passing. Marvin was the middle child born to Beth and Percy Reynolds. He was raised in the Byemoor area with his younger sister Doreen and older brother Clifford. Marvin started his school years at Wolf Hill, moving to Jakes Butte and eventually onto Byemoor School. Marvin then started an apprenticeship for welding in 1964 at Hank Boss’s Machine Shop in Byemoor. He attended SAIT where he acquired his journeyman welding ticket in 1967. In 1968 he moved to Stettler where he briefly worked for Thieme’s Welding but then decided to start his own business known as Marvin Reynolds Welding. Marvin was well known for being the “guy to get” for a variety of projects. Some of the bigger projects he tackled over the years were building pens for the Stettler Auction Mart, structures for Earl Bergman and Lawrence Kennedy as well as repairing large construction road equipment for various companies. He successfully ran his business for 43 years in the town of Stettler. In addition to being a welder he was very handy all around at construction, building two homes for his family in Stettler. Marvin was married to Corrie Walker from 1970 to 1988. Together they had two children Brenda and Lyle who still reside in the Stettler area. Marvin enjoyed both listening to, as well as playing music, starting at a very early age. There were not too many stringed instruments that Marvin could not play. If you handed him an instrument and gave him 30 minutes he would soon be tapping his foot, picking out a melody and humming along. He enjoyed older country and old time music. All of this was played by ear as he did not read music. Over the years he has played violin, banjo, mandolin, electric, bass and acoustic guitar as well as the keyboard. He loved to entertain the crowds and for many years he played in an Old Time band called the Top Hatters where he played bass guitar for dances with his close friends Norm Pickett and Jim Horne. In later years the band volunteered their time entertaining residents at Heart Haven Lodge. In addition to music Marvin enjoyed nature, gardening, camping, fishing, bird hunting and playing horseshoes and lawn darts (in the dark with a lantern). Not only did he play music but loved to dance! Throw on a good polka or waltz and he was quick to find a partner and hit the dance floor. There may or may not have been a few toes broken over the years by Marvin’s ambitious 2-stepping. Over the last several years he also enjoyed riding his bike and put on many miles around the streets of Stettler. He was well known for having the “gift of gab” and loved to visit and tell stories to anyone who would listen. He had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke! Marvin is survived by his loving family: daughter Brenda (Terry) Baltimore and grandson Logan Hadwell; son Lyle Reynolds (Sara Maberly) and grandchildren: Brittany (Dustin) Newton, Alison Reynolds, Jaina Maberly and Brennan Maberly; great granddaughter Neveah Newton; sister Doreen (Kaj) Guldberg and family; sister in law Linda Reynolds and family; other relatives and dear friends. Marvin was predeceased by his brother Clifford Reynolds; mother Elizabeth "Beth" Reynolds (Stewart) and father Percival "Percy" Reynolds.
