Obituary of Albert Lester Brown

The family announces with great sadness the loss of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Albert Lester Brown. Albert passed away on January 27, 2017 in the Our Lady of Rosary Hospital, Castor, AB at the age of 88 years. Albert had a love for farming, socializing, animals, wood carving, and most of all his family and community. Albert Lester Brown was born on June 25, 1928 in Galahad, AB to William and Vera Brown and was the eldest of four children. Albert was raised on the family homestead in the Paintearth district north of Castor. He attended Painter Creek School to grade nine where he then stayed home to help his parents on the farm. Albert in his younger years would travel by train to visit his Grandma Brown in Victoria, BC. Albert would tell of these memories in his later years. As a young child Albert would often go missing and after frantic searches he could often be found curled up with his dog in the wash tub or in the most unusual places. Albert later met the love of this life, Kay Houser, while attending a dance in Halkirk, AB. Albert and Kay courted for a year and then wed in April 1951. They began their journey together a mile northeast of the family homestead. To this union six children were born. Albert continued farming with his father until his parents moved to Castor. Albert and his brother Tom then partnered in farming for many years to follow until it was time for Albert to farm with his sons. Albert was a devoted farmer working many long and hard hours. He had a love for animals but especially his horses. Although he worked many long hours providing he always set aside time to spend with family and friends. Whether he was getting together with neighbours and friends to play cards, running the family to community events, playing ball with the kids or teaching them to ride a bike or horse, or taking a family vacation, Albert made sure quality time was spent with all. Albert also enjoyed fishing trips with his buddies, trap shooting at the Paintearth Gun Club, and participating in the races, horseshoes and ball games at the Farmer's Day Picnics. Albert was known to many for his practical jokes, sense of humour, and love of telling stories. He left many wondering if they were true or not, especially his mother-in-law. Albert and Kay retired to Castor in 1984. Albert soon learned he was more talented than he knew. He began his hobbies in leather work and wood carving where new friendships were formed. Much of his work has been shared with friends and family. Albert is predeceased by his parents William and Vera Brown, parents in-law Clarence and Kathleen Houser, sister Phyllis Wallace, sisters-in Law Peggy Brown, Irene Yost, Ann Houser and Betty Houser, brothers-in-law Ken and Ray Houser, Harry Yost, Albert Blauel, Boswell Belcher, Chris Thumlert and nephew Kenneth Yost. Albert is survived by his loving family: his wife Kay of sixty-five years; six children, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Deborah (Ken) Breed and family, Zak (Nicole) Schnell and children Kayla, Logan and Ryley, Sasha (Simon) Brown and daughter Emily, Jade Breed; Raymond and family, Dusty (Leisha) and children Waylon and Anderson, Colin and Andrew; Cathy (Fred) Fiss and family, Derrick (Lisa) and his children Julia, Ethan and Nicolas, Pamela (Doug) Taylor and children Carson and Isabella; Angela (Ernie) Methot and son Brennen; William and family, Reid, Jacob and Cooper (Tess Breum) and son Hudson; Cory (Danielle) and family, Payton, Liam and Sadie; brothers Tom (Doreen), Richard; brothers-in-law Jack Wallace and Vernon Houser; sisters-in-law Lois Thumlert and Phyllis Houser and numerous nephews and nieces.
