Obituary of Kenneth William Rombough
Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth William Rombough was born on July 9, 1934 in Alliance, Alberta to Lillie & Ernest Rombough. He passed away quietly on December 31, 2016 at the age of 82 yrs while in Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, Castor, AB.
He is survived by his sister Ethel (Gordon) Kuefler of Redwater, his brother-in-law Bob (Minnie) Moro of Camrose & numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ken was predeceased by his parents Lillie & Ernest Rombough, brother Marvin (Mary) Rombough, sister Ruby Moro, sister Dorothy (Archie) Williams, brother Gordon (Betty) Rombough and wife Helen Rombough.
Ken took his schooling in Alliance, then went to help his father in the trucking business hauling grain, fuel and oil to customers in the Alliance District for many years. He made lifelong friends along the way and was highly respected by all the farmers.
He was actually ahead of his time, because he was in the recycling business long before it became the big business it is today. He collected bottles, storing them in a shed, which would be packed to the rafters, then packing them all up and shipping them by train to parts unknown.
Ken was a good, reliable worker. He worked at Bob’s Corner Service in Alliance helping Bob serve gas, fix tires, change oil and was awesome at keeping the floors well swept. He loved visiting with the customers and was considered the PR man at the corner. Until the very end Kenny never failed to ask the Alliance people how Bob and the business were doing at the garage.
Some of his hobbies were watching hockey at the Alliance Arena, he was an excellent score keeper and took the job very seriously. In later years he loved watching hockey on TV and spent many Saturday nights with Bob and Ruby Moro watching Hockey Night in Canada.
Bingo was one of his favourite pastimes and could be found every Friday night in the Alliance Hall, hollering Yabba Dabba Doo whenever he Bingo-ed. He still played Bingo when he was living at the Castor Lodge and at Long Term Care.
He also loved wiener roasts around a campfire and loved camping trips with his sister Ethel, Gordon Kuefler and family.
In 1981 he married Helen McPherson, they were married until 1992 at which time Helen passed away. In 1994 he married Donna Adams and they both worked in Elk Point and Viking, Alberta.
When Ken’s health started to decline he moved into Castor Paintearth Lodge in December of 2008, where he lived for seven years. There he met a good friend Clara Shipton, they spent many hours together playing cards. He never forgot about his roots in Alliance occasionally driving his car to Alliance just to check on “things”.
In February of 2015 he moved into Long Term Care in Castor, as his health began to deteriorate even more. He loved to sing and play his spoons and could carry a tune very well, but the words he sometimes didn’t know, or forgot, so he would make up his own.
Ken never held a grudge, was very kind, never complained, never judged anyone and was always friendly to everyone he met. He was a conscientious and reliable worker.
Kenny will be missed by his family and his Long Term family. His favourite saying as he would say good–bye was “Don’t take any wooden nickels!”
We would like to thank Dr. Hanton, Dr. Murphy and staff for their excellent care and attention Kenny received while he was in Long Term Care. Thanks to Parkview Funeral Chapels for the kindness we received during our time of sorrow. To Rev. Barbara Zimmerman for her understanding, compassion and kind words of Kenny; to the W.I. in Alliance for providing the lunch after the funeral. Thanks to all the people who attended the service for Ken and sent donations and words of comfort to our family.
