Vera Hester Bullington was born in Halkirk, AB on November 30, 1922 and was called home to her Lord and Saviour March 14, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Vera was the 2nd of 3 girls born to Charles and Madge Bullington. Vera and her family moved from the Bullington Homestead in Halkirk to Castor when Vera was a young girl. She was a child that often fell sick and missed a lot of school, only completing Grade 4. As a young woman she endured many adversities, losing her youngest sister Verna to MS and watching her oldest sister Viola endure polio. Vera was of great help to her family her entire life, working in the house and yard, wherever was needed. Having never married she took on the role of companion and caregiver to her mother and sister Viola and became a second mother to niece Donna after Verna’s passing. Vera was a loyal employee as well; for 11 years she worked in the kitchen of the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Castor and then in August of 1959 began what was to be a long career as a Kitchen Aide at the Castor Hospital. She retired from the hospital after 27 years of service in December of 1986. She peeled many a potato and washed many a dish by hand. She was an active member of the Anglican Church, ACW and delivered Meals on Wheels. Vera eventually moved into Manor 1 in Castor and made new friends and built lots of puzzles. When she felt ready, she asked to move in to the Castor Lodge and that is where she spent the remainder of her Golden Years. She loved the company and fellowship and the feeling of security. She looked forward to the daily visits from her niece Donna, and was very content and happy. Vera always had a witty sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh and a good joke. She was an avid gardener and a good cook. She loved company, parties, playing cards and bingo and listening to Charlie Pride and Tommy Hunter. She always did ‘fancy work’ and gave away many gifts of pillowcases and dresser scarves over the years. She also loved to drive and offered rides to local bingos on Friday nights to all her friends. She was also a fabulous and unforgettable Aunty, and 3 generations of nieces and nephews are thankful to have loved her. Predeceased by her parents, Charles and Madge, her sisters Verna and Viola; Vera is survived by her niece Donna (Ted) Jordahl of Castor, one great niece Val (Chris) Schmidt of Olds, one great nephew Travis (Darla) Jordahl of Castor as well as 4 great great nieces and nephews, Devon and Lane Schmidt and Brittany and Leethan Jordahl.
