Obituary of Walter Harry Mix

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With deep sadness and peaceful hearts we lovingly say goodbye to our husband, father, grandfather and friend. Walter was born June 8, 1925 and went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 30, 2013 at the age of eighty eight. Walter was born, grew up, married, raised a family, farmed and lived all of his life on the land his parents homesteaded. He attended Sullivan Lake School until grade eight but received most of his education from life’s experiences. He was a simple, hardworking, straightforward man and you always knew where you stood with him. He was fiercely independent and had strong opinions but at the same time he was kind, giving and generous to those in need. He was a fixture in the community and was a unique character you never forgot even if you only met him once. His faith guided him and his family throughout his life. He was proud of his family and his pioneer heritage and held onto many old traditions. He was passionate about his farm and ranch lifestyle; from working the land and cattle, to raising and breaking horses to ride and to work the cattle. He especially loved his Belgian Teams which he proudly displayed at the Castor Winterfest. It wasn’t all work, as he loved to joke around, loved music, especially Wilf Carter. It wasn’t unusual to hear him singing and yodeling while milking cows or driving the tractor. Walter is survived by his very devoted wife Adelgunde of fifty seven years; daughter Sharon (Bill), sons Larry (Candace) and Kenneth (Karen) and grandsons Drew (Jodi) and Shane. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Bertha and all his brothers and one sister. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of Walter’s caregivers for their excellent care and patience under difficult circumstances throughout his time at Extended Care. A celebration of Walter's life will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Evangelical Missionary Church, Castor, Alberta with Reverend Grant Sikstrom and Pastor JIm Culham officiating.
