Helen Hilda Pigeon was born to Reinhold and Christina (Scheffelmaier) Ulmer on September 25, 1927 in Castor, Alberta. She passed away on December 4, 2012 in the Castor Extended Care at the age of 85. Helen was raised on the farm north of Castor and attended school at Meadowview. She married the love of her life, Philip Pigeon on March 11, 1946 in Calgary, Alberta. They lived northeast of Castor in the Bulwark district on the family farm until 1988 when they moved to town. Farming, gardening, cooking, community activities, and family kept them very busy. She was an active member of the Happy-Go Lucky, the Royal Purple, the golf club and the curling club and delivered Meals-On Wheels for many years. Helen moved to the Paintearth Lodge in 2007 and was a resident of the Castor Extended Care at the time of her death. She leaves to mourn her passing 3 children: Jim of Arizona, Candace (Brian White) of Strathmore and Jacqueline of Medicine Hat; 5 grandchildren: Patricia (Garth Dowling), Danielle (Darren Burke), Taylor Pigeon, Kate Swetnam and Kristie Swetnam; 4 great-grandchildren: Brianna and Ty Dowling and Grady White and Megan Burke; a sister-in-law Gwen Coppock; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family friends. Helen was predeceased by her husband Philip in 1990, an infant son Gregory, her parents, a sister Mabel Turner, sisters-in law Elaine Kneller and Yvonne Hnatiuk, brothers-in law Art Turner, Doug Coppock, Otto Kneller and Bill Hnatiuk. Funeral services are at St. John Lutheran Church on Wednesday,December 12, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with interment in the Castor Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to OLRH Foundation, the Alberta Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice.
